Thumbs down Quick to Judge GTA San Andreas prob

I saw in a former thread that someone was having probs running their GTA SA from their Hard Drive.
Right away people assumed that it was a pirate copy and all that stuff.
Well I just got GTA San Andreas last night - yes an ORIGINAL LIGIT one. I copied it to the HD and it would not run. I patched the default.xbe and it still would not run (just as he said - it went back to the dashboard).
I put the files onto DVD and it ran fine there. So it runs fine so long as it's not on the HD.
I'm going to go home and try that Region thing fix to see if that fixes me up - but my point is this...

I thought someone (don't recall the nametag) was pretty quick to jump to conclusions about it being a pirate copied disc and took the moral high ground and proceeded to chastise everyone for even being part of the conversaion. Perhaps the profliferation of pirate stuff is normal around here given the environment we in here (mod chips etc) - but in the end - all it did was prove someone's rash judgement and ultimately their lack of knowledge (at least on this particular game).

Surprised the poor guy with the problem didn't banned as a result of the rash judgement. Then again.... maybe I should shut up now before I am?
;-)

Yeah - go figure

Yeah - go figure - I have the orig NTSC and it's a no go.
Now I didn't play with any region settings - I'll try that out tonight but I could relate to the guy's problem since I am having the exact same ordeal.
And copying it direct from the DVD to the HD did nothing for me. Even if I patched the default.XBE - same result.

But now I'm repeating myself now arn't I?

Why don't you go figure yourself mate??

If you actually READ you'l find that the person who asked happens to live in Ireland. (IE PAL REGION)

Now seeing as it was a worldwide launch it is VERY highly unlikly that he imported a NTSC version at extra cost when they were released the same day.

U really are a willy

Yes but

Cyclops is running the NTSC version. I was trying to illustrate that the problem was occuring with non-pal releases as well.

Funny enough, I went home last night to try some things out - nadda. Couldn't get it to work.
In fact, if I used XBox Xplorer and browsed to the backup disc, it wouldn't run either, it would only run if the game started with the xbox booting.
I thought that was rather..... interesting...

This is something that I have never seen before.

It's such a pain to play from disc, hopefully I'll come across a fix somewhere (although I doubt it).

GTA SA works great from HDD for me too... No problems whatsoever with my PAL version from HDD.
Backuped the disc using DVD2Xbox 0.6.7 and I can play the game just fine...

I was the one who closed that topic

Usually, when somebody states that they have a problem running from the HDD, then continues to state that he/she extracted the iso and sent it to their HDD (rather than using the original disk), it is more than likely that the original disk was not present. If you have a similar problem, feel free to make another post about it. I never banned talk of the game.

Hi Everyone,

It was me who posted the original problem. I agree with what was said here I didn’t appreciate the accusation that I was using a pirate copy of GTA.

Anyway, the problem was easily solved thanks to other members informing me to change the region settings on Evox.

Again I’d like to thank everyone for there help in this matter

I usually copy my original games to the HDD because three reasons:

- quick access to the game (not to find the disc over the living room or where the hell was left the last night)
- to preserve the life of the dvd drive
- game experience a bit faster (in loading screens)
