Silent Hunter 3 Starforce fooling method doesn't work

Hi,

I've tried the fooling method of Starforce3 with game Silent Hunter 3, as someone described earlier in related posts. The thing is, everything looks OK, but the serial key is rejected. I wonder how is this possible, since the key should work? Is it related to Starforce protection or simply the key doesn't work, and why?
The method I used is:
1) downloaded SH3 mini-image from gcw.com
2) Started SH3.exe (original), it installed Starforce and required restart.

After the restart:
3) Mounted image with Daemon tools 3.47
4) Used Starf**k v0.83b to disable all CD drives
5) Again started the game. This time it asks the serial key.
6) Entered the serial key found on crackdb.com
7) The key is rejected - invalid.

What should I do to make this game work without overwriting the necessary files with cracked ones, because I need to apply the newest patch since the game is very buggy and crashes often? And if I wait for cracked files to become available to download, I think I'll wait forever...

Thank you in advance!

I still think that the USB trick is the only sure-fire way to play current Starforce backups.

I've read the USB-trick method, but I don't really understand what do you mean by USB? USB flash disk, USB DVD-ROM, USB... what ?
Because, I have a notebook with integrated DVD-ROM, and I'm pretty sure that very few percent of people have removable USB DVD-ROMs...

Use a Dongle from IDE to USB.

Question

this ide2usb "dongle" (as you called it):
Does this also work with splinter cell 3 and starforce nightmare (or pulling out the cables of your cd-rom-drives) just like a "real" usb drive?
In other words: Is it mostly the same as a usb drive and can i play SC:CT without DVD?
Sorry for my bad English

No, the DVD is needed....

Starforce Protection check´t the DVD or CD.....

You must have a USB-CD-Rom or Dongle....a USB-HD don´t work...the CD is testing...not the Harddrive.

@R80: Use the SEARCH button, that's what forum rule #4 is about!

its called a 'usb drive enclosure unit', basically it takes an ide unit (cd/dvd) and 'converts' it to a usb connection, there are also ones that do the same except via firewire etc..

i do not know if the firewire will work with starforce though, but i cant see why it wouldnt work where usb does..

Angry

So I bought SH3 original, first original game I'm buying in 15 years (last game must have been kick off 2 for my spectrum) and no, I am not ashamed at all.
So patch v1.4b (b is NOT beta in this case) is out and still no cracks. I'm not really asking for any, I now know they won't release anything. And I have to keep on playing w/my original DVD coz there's no way I'm buying enclosure units etc. just to play 2-3 starforce games.
Only my original dvd got a *real* crack yesterday, it expands every time I put it in the dvd-rom, tomorrow I'm throwing it away and getting a new one for 30 euros. That's 60 euros in total, having to buy the game twice. I swear it's the last original game I'm buying.
