Unhappy PS2 Hdd Crash

I have totaly screwed up my ps2 hdd. i put it in the comp and for some reason started messing arround with the hdd settings. i went into control panel , administrative tools , computer mandgement , disk management then right clicked on the ps2 hdd and clicked initilise. i have no idea what it done and since then the ps2 , winhiip , hdhandiness all want to format the hdd.
i think that it just screwed with the boot sector on the hdd. and was wondering if there was any program or way or extracting the images from the hdd and then formatting the ps2 hdd completley. i would rather do this that format the hdd then reinstal all the games i had previously installed individualy because most of them need patching / shrinking etc and it would take aegis.

Thankz

In this case I dont think you can save it. Unfortunately it sounds like youll have to redo all your games again.

i no ill prob have to format the whole hdd but was just wondering as a last resort if there was any program that can read from a hdd without the MBR (master boot record) and recover files. or a program that can rewrite the MBR without formatting the hdd completly. i was wondering this cause i feel strongly that everything i still on the hdd but the PS2 MBR is screwed which makes it imposible for the Ps2/winhiip/hdhandiness to read it.

Thankz

Thumbs up

It may be a long shot but there is a program called "knoppix" its linux based. It runs off of a cd-rom. Like Linux its open source so its free to download. I've used this to recover info off of a broken sata hard drive that was physically damamged. It was about to read all the contents on it and I was able to recover everything I wanted. (It took a very long time to extract the data because the disk was physically damamged internally).. But anyway this is a really neat tool. It may be able to help.

If you're not on a highspeed connection though kiss it goodbye. It's a 700mb download. You can buy it also though.. for a few bucks. Really cheap.

All you do is set your computer to boot first from the cd rom drive.. Stick that bad boy in the cd rom drive.. and it should boot directly off of the the disc and load its own mini OS. It even has its own burning utility included.. I'm going to link you to a page that has all the information on it.. READ IT THOROUGHLY if you decide to use it that is.

http://www6.tomshardware.com/howto/20040303/index.html

the home page that has a hell of a lot of download mirrors (http/ftp)
http://www.knoppix.com/

Good Luck..
I recommend this to anyone who's having hard drive troubles.. It was a life saver. (not my own) but the owner of the hard drive... It had so much por... valueable information on it that we were thankful to have recovered..
