Question External hard drive

Hi, I would like to ask same questions concern sharing one external hard drive between two computers.
I have two computers on which I work simultaneously and I would like to share one external HD between them.
My external HD has two kinds of connections. One is through Firewire and one as USB2.
I try to connect to one computer with firewire and the other with USB2.
It works fine but only with connection one at the time. Unfortunately despite many attempt I can’t make it work on both at the same time.
My question is….it is possible to make such connections the way I try to do it or, if any, with support of any software-hardware?

Many thanks for any suggestions,

well you could use it on the one and make a lan and create an image of the hdd to the other one(it's more easy rather than going on network places etc etc...

assuming both computers have network cards in them (or onboard motherboard) just get one of those network cables (cant remember what there called) set up a lan, and just plug the harddrive in one of the computers and put it on share.
