PS2 v12, media type to use for burning game iso?

Hello
i just got a new ps2 v12 and a matrix infinty modchip for it
i burned some games (from multi-rar, and its iso format) on memorex DVD+R, and a hddloader to CD-R to check if the chip works but i just get the red insert ps2 format disc screen. I used dvd decryptor & fire burner to burn them.
(DVD+R movies and regular Music CD-R's that i burned on same brand play fine)

the chip seems to be working. the version number "Infinity v1.39" shows next to the PS2 logo when booting original games and i can also get to the chip settings by Pressing circle and triangle on bootup. so the chip should be ok?

can anyone tell me what format media i need for games and stuff ? (+,-)(R,RW) ?

any info for what i might be doing wrong would be highly appreciated
i really wanna get this working right after going through 2 ps2's in the process, lol

thanks, tekn9ne
