ps2 hard drive back ups

i am still new to backing up my ps2 games... is there a guide on line that can explain to me how i can put ps2 games on the ps2 hard drive and load them off the hard drive in the ps2. much better then backing up disks. also can i use any hard drive that is ide cable or does ps2 have a certin one
