Painkiller BOOH Problem

Hello !

Got a problem with PAinkiller BOOH, as I pass over the second autosave point in level 3 the game just stops running, and I'm sent back to the desktop.

Anyone got an idea how to fix this problem, what could be the reason for this ?

I am also having a problem with BooH. I recently bought a copy and installed it, and at the end I got a small window in the middle of the screen saying "Installation failed" or something similar. I clicked on the icon to start the game, and lo and behold, it started up. I checked the options, and all the options were just as I had set them for the original PK game.

Now I went to open a savegame file to see if my saved games were still working for the original, and they were - everything there ran with NO problems at all.

OK, now for the problem! I clicked to start a new game and selected the BooH game (this is ALL single player, btw...), and then I clicked to start on the initial stage for the expansion. The first thing I saw (after the intro video, which ran just fine!) was ALL WHITE!!! Practically ALL the background and textures etc were white. I could see some black surrounding what I assume to be a peninsula that I was on, and I "felt" my way along a connection to the "mainland". When I got there, I was soon attacked by several demons, which I easily dispatched with the painkiller weapon.

While I was "chewing them up" I could see red blood and gibs flying all around, but this was the ONLY color that I could see. I tried continuing on, but there was NO WAY that I could see where I was going. It was like trying to travel through a "reverse night" scenario!!!

Is this the way the game is supposed to start up??? Am I doing something wrong (or failing to do something I SHOULD be doing?)? Or is there a problem with my installation?

I uninstalled the entire PK game and started over from scratch. I first installed the original PK, then applied the 3 patches to get it up to 1.64, and then installed the expansion BooH. Again, the original game would start up FINE and played PERFECTLY, but when I tried to play the BooH game I just got the same old "whiteout" situation. It was like trying to play in a blinding blizzard.

Can ANYONE help me here??? PLEEEAAAASSSSEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What made you think the game would play 100%? There is obviously missing files, reinstall if you have 2 drives install using the other one you havent used yet.

Tried that. I have two CD-Drives, and have tried installing from each of them. I also tried un-installing and re-installing on three different hard drive partitions.

The files SEEM to be all there. AND the PK:HGaHM game runs PERFECTLY, both before AND after installing the PK:BooH expansion!

BOTH games launch from the same menu, but there seems to be something going on that I cannot figure out here with the expansion. The game loads up, when I start a NEW game, the intro movies play perfectly, and then when I go to the screen to select the chapter to play (only the first one is available initially...) I click on it and everything STILL "seems" to be going fine. But when the game finishes loading, I am in this raging blizzard, and practically all I can see is white. ...I CAN see my weapon hovering in front of me, and the animation when I activate it. And the mangled corpses of the demons being chopped up seem fine. AND there are little glimpses of objects in the environment (similar to what you would expect to see in a REAL blizzard...) from time to time.

My system specs are

Pentium 4/2.8GHz
1GB RAM
300 GB hard drive with over 200 GB free
SB Audigy Sound card
Ge Force 5600 video with 256 MB RAM

The system is less than a year old, and is a Sony VAIO product.

I have to ask the obvious is your expansion disc an original?

If so and bought recently it may be faulty, ask for a replacement.

Or you could try cleaning your lens in one or both of your drives, perhaps it isnt reading the disc/s correctly due to a spec of dust on them. It can happen.

Problem SOLVED!!!

I thought about the disk possibly being bad (BTW, ALL my disks are originals!), and so I tried installing the game on another computer. This other machine is inferior in many respects to the "main" one (onboard video, onboard sound, 500MB RAM, 120GB HD), but EVERYTHING WORKED!!!

Next I had to try to find out WHY!!! Since the two computers are networked, I brought up the "Painkiller" folder from each installation on the screen, side by side. I compared the contents of each folder, and after careful analysis discovered that on the "main" computer there were several files missing, among them a 500 MB texture file, as well as several COMPLETE subfolders...

I STILL have no idea why these files and folders did not install on the original computer but DID on the other one. It's POSSIBLE but not very likely that the lenses in BOTH CD Drives were dirty. And I have installed OTHER games SINCE with no problems... Also, as I said earlier, I uninstalled the complete game from the first computer and then installed it again on a different hard drive, and there was LOTS of free space left over - in fact, I could install the game MANY TIMES over and still have space left!!!

Anyway, I copied the "Painkiller" folder from the second computer to the first one, put the required CD in the drive, and fired up the game, and IT WORKED!!! THAT was the problem! The missing files!!!

Go figure!!! COMPUTERS!!!

Evil_pikatchu, sorry to have hi-jacked your thread like I did, but I gave a little thought to YOUR problem. Check your Painkiller folder. Minus the save games, there should be (at least in MY case) 511 files in 21 folders, for a total of 3.24 GB. If yours is significantly different, you might want to try something like I did. Maybe it will help!
