How to copy a backup of MSR ? (This is a post from an expert, not a newbie stupid question)
I perfectly know how to burn DC games for a long time.
I know how to burn downloaded isos, how to copy backuped games, and how to make non-boot to self-boot. Here is the problem : Apparently MSR has a protection (like Le Mans which is an European game too) that prevents it from being easily copied with DiscJuggler (DJ). The working CD of MSR that I own, has 2 sessions : the first is a 300 sectors track for the selfboot, and the 2nd is the big data track that starts at LBA 11700. (total CD size : 73:15:65) I could make a copy without changing the LBA, because my burner supports small 300 sectors tracks. But if I try to make an image file of this CD with DJ, I have 2 possibilities : 1) Make the image file with my CDROM drive 2) Make the image file with my burner. 1) If I use my CDROM drive, DJ tells me : 3 sessions, 2 tracks, and size = 76:38:36 which is wrong. 2) If I use my burner: 2 sessions, 2 tracks, and size = 73:17:66 which is right. Many friend of mine have observed the same difference between burners and cdrom drives (SCSI, IDE...). And that's not specfic to MSR. (every games with the same cd-structure, in fact) And if I burn the image of a self-booting game made by my cdrom drive, the game doesn't boot up. So I always use my burner to make the image file. BUT, with MSR (and Le Mans) I have this error : "(CDB: be0000002db4000000a100000, Status: 040002, Sense: 052100) Invalid block adress" right after the beginning of the writting of track 2. If I ignore read errors, I get an infinite number of such messages. So I tried another method : re-make a self-boot cd with the files present on the cd. So I used the DC self-boot Toolkit 3.5 which is a very good tool. (I have made a lot of non-boot to self-boot games with it.) But that didn't work with MSR because the DC self-boot Toolkit burn a first audio track of 302 sectors (instead of 300) in order to avoid buffer-under-run problems with some burners. And the result is a version of MSR that boots-up, plays the movie-intro, and comes back to the Dreamcast OS. That is apparently the symptom of the European protection. I tried to modify the DC self-boot Toolkit batch file in order to burn a 300 sectors track and to place the 2nd session at LBA 11700 (that is required in order to avoid the protection) but I failed (cdrecord can't burn 300 sectors tracks) So I tried another method : CDIRIP -> ISO LBA Fixer -> ISO Header Extracter -> CDRWIN I've made an image file (.cdi) with DJ using my cdrom drive (not the burner since it can't), I've extracted the 2nd session with CDIRIP, I've padded 11700 sectors in front of the iso with ISO LBA Fixer, and I've used ISO Header Extracter on the first iso. So I've obtained a big iso called tmp.iso (643 Mo), and a small one (600ko) called header.iso. Then I had to successively burn them with CDRWIN, with these settings :Cdrom-XA and Mode 2, Open New Session and Finalize/Close Session checked, Write Postgap Box unchecked After having burned the first one (the big one) I can't burn the 2nd one because the cd is write-protected. That seems normal since I've aksed CDRWIN to finalize/close the session. But I have previously tried this method with other games and I was able to burn the header.iso after having burned the tmp.iso, with Finalize/Close Session enabled. So I don't understand ! I have even tried to burn a CDRW with the header.iso as a 1st session, then the header.iso again as the 2nd session, and CDRWIN doesn't tell me it is write-protected, it simply burns it. Really strange. I've tried with WinOnCD too, same result. So, any relevant info would by very much apprecied ! Please forgive the lenght of my post, I really wanted to be accurate. Mail me at [email protected] (put MSR as subject) Alucard. |
