compress dvd to 1 gig, mpeg4

hey id like to compress a dvd movie to about 1 gig or less,, im going to put it on a lyra portable a/v player.... how small can i compress it without it distorting on the 3.5 inch screen??


it can play mpeg 1 or mpeg 4

I believe the program I used was DVDx 2.0. I made my movies divx, about 800mb each.

hey i cant figure out how to use dvdx? how do i rip it to that size?
