Making your ps2 play copied games

I'm thinking of the neo chip for my ps 2, but is it safe, cause I heard there are some problems with the dvd function if you mess with your ps2, is this true. Or can I safely commence with the copied gaming experience?

I have a neo2.2, It's perfectly safe, DVD plays fine, Just get a qualified installer to do the work.
