Reparing a phillips drive

There isn't any power getting to the actualy laser component. Does anyone know what voltage it needs? Also, are there any fuses in the phillips drive itself?

Thanks

I'm not too familiar with fixing dvd drives, and don't know if anyone else is here. I suggest you go to the www.llamma.com forums and ask there. That site is pretty much dedicated to repairing consoles.

Sounds like a new drive needed to me, or your can send it back to the manufacturer for repair. I don't know about power to lazer and all that stuff, but I think it is pretty safe to say it is not a job that can be done in your garage or by some "Johnny-have-a-go" who occasionally fixes toasters and clapped out stereos.

I had a faulty Mitsumi rewriter and I sent it back the manufacturers and they did repair it free of charge. I only had to pay for postage sending it to them.

Okay I guess a new drive would be smarter. What would you guys say is better a used Philips drive off of ebay or one of those new hacked Philips PC DVD drives?

That one is better, simply because it will last as long as a pc-dvd-ro mwould last.

by the way, youe ebay link actually has nothing do to with xbox yet. It is just a PC dvd-rom that you can find almost anywhere, for probably cheaper.

The specific one has not been hacked or modified in any way yet. That is why most will sell for over $100 hacked
