NEO4

Have Forum members noticed that the NEO4 description is completely silent on whether or not it plays PS2 Import Originals, let alone whether or not this is without swap.

I would conclude from this that:
the following is certain - PS2 Import Originals will not boot without a swap
the following is probable - PS2 Import Originals might require a swap
the following is possible - PS2 Import Originals cannot be played

Over to you at Playstationmods. Please clarify or make good any omission.

Hey Charlie Mate,

What about EA Sports backups, the last thing i heard was that you had to patch them before you could boot them using the NEO4 mod that has not be clarified either.

Still gonna stick with my good old NEO2.2

Cheers

Most ModChips are programmed on the 12C508 (8 pin) microcontroller however it became apparent during the development of NEO4 that this type of architecture wasn't going to be sufficient in both speed and capacity to handle the data required to enable direct booting of PS2 and PS copies . The NEO4 PlayStation ModChip is a fully assembled printed circuit board comprising of 3 microchips plus various surface mount components giving the ModChip a clean wafer thin design which fits inside each and every model without compromising any future functions of the PS2. This module design will also greatly reduce the difficulty of any future upgrades.
Currently NEO4 consists of 33 wires although work is underway to reduce this number to approximately 28 wires. As with all ModChip installations it is highly recommended that the installer has previous electronic soldering experience. In the case of the NEO4 mod chip we would recommend installation by persons confident with soldering to a large number of fine components.
the whole thing sounds pretty cool to me but its a bit pricey, $77!

So, as I say, Playstaionmods are absolutely silent on PS2 Import Originals.

What would you conclude and is this satifactory? You'd certainly want the NEO4 to be able to handle import DVD originals because so few of us have the mans of making backups.

I agree charlie, Playstationmods have been dragging this out for some time now and never seem to have all the facts as to what the chip will actually do or when it will be released. I have a dvd writer so i dont see any reason why i should upgrade from the 2.2. I will still have to do a swap to play my dvdr backups so to me the neo 4 is not worth it.

Again woodmaster101 you've helped me make another decision. I was thinking the exact thing. What's the point of getting the neo4 when you have to swap dvdr copies anyway. Also - 33 wires!

I'll think I'll get the neo 2.5 since I plan to get a dvdrw anyway.

Hi,

Have you seen the install diagrams???

After fitting all those wires the board looks a mess, im sticking with my NEO2.2 like you say i can DVD swap so i see no point in moving over, I have had great success with not much hassel making and booting backups, the NEO4 will have to prove itself to alot off peeps before it changes our mind.

Cheers

Dal

Playstationmods are still silent on the ability of NEO4 to boot import originals. This is very disappointing and looks like good news for Origachip and Messiah (when Messiah happens).

well i have got my neo4 installed, and u do have to patch ea games still or they dont work, i dont have any ps2 imports so i couldnt tell you that.

If i had a modchip before i would not upgrade untill it is necessary or a no swap modchip comes out. i did the neo4 myself and it took about 10 hrs to do the 44 wiresas im no expert solderer but i did it and it worked fine the first time i tried so thats all that matters
