Virus...pls help
Hello Dear Friends,
I found my system full of virus when i came back today to the office in the morning. i have kept my system on yesterday for downloads and since it is on lan it has affected all the machines in the lan. There are almost 13 computers connected to the lan. Now after i came to office i ran a system scan in all the computers with Symantec Antivirus, but that failed to clean all the virus and the viruses have been qurantined now. My question is that can these qurantined files create any other problems to my computer.should i format my system and reinstall everything. but there are a lot of files in my computer which is very useful to me. I am really frustrated and i dont know what to do.Can anybody help me telling that is there any way we can delete all the qurantined files and will it create any problems later on.. I need help desperately... Thanking u all in advance.. |

try using AVG 6, or an online panda antivirus scan in case any of the virus infected the antivirus files

Quarentined just means they are in an area which they arn't going to be automaticly executed at startup. Delete all the quarentined items unless the 'viruses' are bound with importent files. Depending the virus(es) said by the scan depends the cource of action you should take. From the whole spreading thing i'm thinking not a virus but a worm of self-spreading trojan, so in either of those cases the first thing you should do is update your security patches. If it is somekind of trojan i would suggest having all the email for the office run view remotely off of a non-windows machine with a virus scanner. Other then that the only real way to get comprimised is 0day sec holes and social engineering, asuming your websites (if any) are securely coded.

If you have anitvirus software, then go to the manufacturers website and follow thier guides for suggested cleaning. Many viruses can be recognised and quaranteened by AV software but not necessarily removed. It all depends on what they are and do.
