Starforce Information

Well, seeing there has been so much talk around these forums about Starforce this may be of some help to people to understand about the protection.

http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/starforcecdr

This also gives a good indication that there is bound to be some type of CD-R out there that has similar properties to this Starforce CD-R they speak of in the article, it's just a matter of finding what media is going to work.

It's only a matter of time before someone comes out with a universal fix for Starforce, sure they can create new versions, but new fixes are just as easily made.

Nice, but 2 problems: Every drive mentioned is 2 years old, and the version describe here, is version 1. With version 3 (now in use, with version 4 on the way) the program uses a device driver-level copy protection. You can read the interview FiringSquad had with one of the guys behind Starforce here:
http://www.firingsquad.com/features/...rce_interview/

Note: Whenever they talk about Starforce they are talking about version 3.

What they don't mention is the other "things" Starforce 3 uses as part of it's protection (such as hidden code buried within the game).

You can also read up on Starforce from their own mouths.
http://www.star-force.com/index.phtm...gory=16&type=5

Pay attention to the sections that say "... is the first system that offers a multi-level and fully-functional protection, which encrypts not only the executable files, but also non-executable files included in the application." Hence the difficulty in cracking games protected by this SOAB.

If you check the web some more you will find even more detailed info on SF3. There are a more checks this thing does, and I would fill this entire page linking or posting that info.

Wouldn't it be best if all these posts about Starforce go in the CD Copy Protections & Utilities section instead of cluttering up the PC Games forum?

Gosh BarryB,

I wish _all_ off-topic threads in this forum were as useful as this one!

hehe..

True.. but.. seeing as how I didn't start it.. hehe

Kinda funny if you think about it. There is a lot of mis-information going around about this SOAB POS MUTHA HEFFER ( that was fun to type) protection. Damn thing is too good. Mind you, too good for IT'S own good. Sooner or later they will get it right.. scarey thought...
