PS2 Gone Kaput already??

Hi,

I had baught my second PS2 this time with a Matrix Infinity ModChip in July, been playing a lot of Backed-up games on it, and now it seems it won't play a few backed up CD-R based games.

Right it plays Originals...straight away...and the same goes for backed up DVD-R's and some Backed up CD-R's, it tries to load the back-up and then goes back to the Browser screen with a purple disc visable, i don't get the Dis Read Error message

And another thing i tried to run this CD/DVD Lens Cleaner from a Company from Blaze, but that wouldn't run either it just goes back to the browser.

The modchip allows you to skip the boot screen by holding on Reset at Power-Up, but that just leaves me with a black screen.

I'm not sure which version my PS2 is but its SCPH-50003 with DVD Player 3.00E so which version is that and is its laser any reliable (if there is such thing), but having said that my V3 PS2 works fine apart from it doesn't play DVD Movie Back-ups.

So Do any of you guys know what the problem is? I can't look to see as it is under warranty from whitedog.co.uk, but is it that serious to go through warrenty?

And the media i was using are Philips CD R80 52x, and for DVD's Ritek RiData 4x DVD-R, could it be the media?

check the laser could be worn out from hardcore gaming

How can this be? I have only had it for less than a month....

Do backed up CD-R or DVD-R mash up the laser that fast?

I can't open the thing because it has been sealed with stickers from the person that fitted the chip.

if you use crappy media it will, what kind of media are you using?

For the DVD games i use Ritek RiDisc G04 Dye DVD-R or Sometimes Ritek RiData...these work fine, and smooth.

But, when using the CD-R it doesn't feel right, it sounds like the laser makes a high pitch squeal when reading, but it worked with all but the last copy and the Laser Cleaner, which is supposed to act as a playstation disc.

The media i have been using are these Philips CD R80 52x and thats all i know about them...oh and they have a light colour on the reading surface so they arn't dark like verbatim's.

Ok so if it is the media which is the best and where can i get it from in the UK?

Also should i get the laser swapped under warrenty anyway if it happens to be crappy media, as it may have done some damage?

Back media is pretty crap. Get some light blue dyed discs and you'll be fine

Hi lufcfan,

i already have some light blue cd-r's from Phillips but they make my PS2 laser make a dodgy noise whilst reading, so what CD-R's do you use?

And what about them Dark Verbatim's? Or TraxData? and there's these Ritek RiData CD-R's.

Please Help!!!

I use Verbatim DataLife PLUS discs - or DataSafe Silver Premium 52x - Both are very good for the job...
