My Gameshark Lite will not werk

I recently went on a Final Fantasy Binge and bought FF 1-6. Anyways, I have been trying to get my FF Anthology Game to work on My PS2. It works with out the Gameshark Lite, but when I try to input the codes, the game freezes. Can anyone give any clues as to what may be wrong plez
