New soldering iron advertized.

I was just watching a lil tv and seen a comercial come on about a new soldering iron called ColdHeat. I just got up and ordered one to check out. It comes with a standard tip and a smaller tip for percision soldering. I will check it out when it arrives in 2 to 6 weeks and post a review on its capabilities. It advertized being able to go from cold to hot in seconds and then cool down almost imediately. Supposedly you can put in right in your pocket after soldering. I thought it was interesting. If anyone wants to check it out, call 1-800-301-3794. Just thought I would share this little bit of info for anyone interested or you can wait til I post the reviews.

I saw it too! Only thing is, I am worried about how hot it actually gets when held long enough. I dont want it messing up some PS2 boards if you know what Im saying.

Does it use butane or electricity or what? Cordless irons arent ESD safe most of the time if it is cordless. How much does it cost? What is the benefit of a iron that can heat up fast and cool down fast? My Weller WES51 heats up to the temp I solder at in about 30 seconds and cools down in about that same amount of time.

Not sure what it uses. It comes with a carrying case and it costs the typical $19.95.

The thing about it heating up quick and cooling quick is probably so you can carry it around. The tv shows the guy solder then immediately touch the tip of the iron proving its cooled down.

Maybe CGL will shed some light on this when he gets his.

I too think it may be a hoaks but we will all know soon enough. I for one hope it is a fair one. It would be sweet if it does what they say. I look forward to testing it out thuroughly. I actually bought 2 of them. One for small jobs and one for the bigger jobs. Risky I know, but if it is indeed a successful investment, all the better. When buying a new beer, do you buy just one or do you go for the full 6 pack/12pack/case? hehehehe. If the adventure is worth the risk, GO FOR IT full steam. Thats what ole CGL always says. Crazy is as crazy does. I will let you guys know when it comes in and I throw some serious sodds at it.

hey guys.. i saw this shown on the screen savers(G4 TechTV) and they said they would rather stick to a real soldering iron.. they said that it does heat up quickly (5 seconds) and cools down just as fast but you should see the size of the tip.. it may be ok for big jobs (automobile work) but for any small jobs u may as well use duct tape to solder points!!

It comes with a small tip (ordered separately)for smaller jobs. One of the questions I asked today when I called to check on my order was how well it would work for small electronic jobs. Ofcourse they reassured me that it was perfect for any soldering needs and that the smaller tip I ordered is what I needed to do the small stuff. I was also told they are on back order. The person I spoke to said they got so many calls for them that they didnt have enough to go around. They are still shipping them out so it should not be much longer.
I told them they better order alot more cause if this thing does suit the electronic tech needs there are alot more interested but are waiting for my reviews on the thing. Hehehehe, I said that mostly so they would hopefully get my order out sooner. I guess we wait a little bit longer unfortunately.

Edit: If anyone else ordered one and need to check on their order or just want to call for more info the number I called is 1-800-371-2643. I also wanted to post it here in case I need the number again LOL.

I am going to call again tomorrow and hopefully get a different person just to be sure but I was told it comes with the big tip and a second small tip which is by request only. I specifically asked about electronic soldering as well so I guess we shall soon find out for sure. I will be really bummed if it is as you say after asking in detail about the small jobs. I plan to clear this up once and for all when I call them tomorrow for a second time. I'll post back later and let you know how the 2nd call goes.
