ps2 modchips

hi, i was thinking about getting a mod chip for my sp2 (v4 or 5) to play backups of all my games. First of all i'd like to know if anyone knows the exact laws around mod chips and backing up games in the us, i'll have original copies of all the games. I'd also like to knowhow i can get them installed or if there are any good solderless options that are any good.
Thanks
-Greg-

Read the ultimate sticky and the rules. Most of your questions will be answered there.

Yeah, read the UIS, that's very useful. There aren't any laws in the US that really govern the availability of mods, just the use of them. You'll be fine as long as you own originals for all backups, and don't make more than one backup of a game. You are also not allowed to sell or give away backups. There are NO good solderless options and forget slide cards. Go with a Matrix Infinity if your V4 or V5 is in good condition or a Duo. They are an excellent chip for the cash. It depends what you want out of your mod. If you just want a straight forward, no swap mod, that's cheap and easy to install, go with the Duo, otherwise if you want more features and flash upgrades and updates etc, go with the Matrix.

ok, the matrix sounds good, but the instalation will still be a problem, i saw those web sites in the other forum but i assume that you have to mail them the your ps2 to get the chip installed, i'm not quite sure if i want to do this. Do the laws say anything about installing chips or is that legal, cause if it is i could probaly just go to one of the local hobby shops and have them install it.

That's what I said above. You do have to send your PS2 to those in that little mod installers sticky, but if your local hobby shop will do it for you, then just take it there. Hope this helps...

if your local hobby shop doesnt do that kind of work, you could pm spedmetal in this forum for install questions.

Well i think i would sell the v4 and get me a premodded v10 with matrix infinity. the laser is bound to be worn by now and could cause problems when playing backups.
