ports on my console quit working

Would a burned game be able to disable all of the game pad ports after playing for awhile? Then they stay disabled after even turning off. System starts but none of the ports work .Ive tried this on 3 different systems. Im not sure which has done this. Is there a way to salvage the systems? some sort of reset of the whole system?

the only game i know that did this was super street fighter 2 x, but that was only a protection because of a wrong lba. it only happened in-game and not when you shut off the dc.

what controllers do you use? if you use an arcade stick or the fishing controller, they have been known to blow a fuse in the controller board.

Megalexxx is on a distinguished road
There was also a problem with PSO2 if you played PSO1, I think...

I havent run the street fighter games on the dreamcast. I use the stock controller that ships with the system. I havent tried the fishing controller either. This is a tough one to figure out. It has happened to 3 seperate systems. Thanx for the replys though, good to know people are out there and listening.

hmmm, this is a weird problem. sounds like the DC is overheating and then blowing a fuse or something...?? thats my guess. other than that, i dont know what else to say.

This actually was a common problem with the dreamcast back in the days. Dont recall what caused it though. Try putting a bit of pressure on the port itself (in different directions). I believe the ports themselves are replaceable. I kinda remember seeing them available somewhere online (might've been lik-sang.com or something). Good luck

Ill do some research into this area. It sounds pretty good. I wonder if it was a particular run of the machines.

Exclamation fixed ports

I figurd out why the ports quit working. It had nothing to do with the burned games I beleive. After reserching further on the net . It is a blown resistor on the controller board. I got the ports working after I bypassed the resistor . I now actually need to replace the resistor.

After awhile (3 to 4 hours) of play the machine will shut down. I have not replaced the resistor as of yet. I might do this on the upcoming weekend. So beware when short out the f1 resisitor.............

Hey, did you by chance use the same controllers in each test? Maybe you have a bad controller that blew the resistors in the consoles. I wouldn't trust the controller if this is the case.

Just my 2 cents worth....

Different controllers. Tried a brand new dreamcast control pad. Also a fishing controller.
