Need opinions. [CASE MOD]

Okay, I had NETMECH chip my Ps2 and now I'm doing the Case Mod.

I'm cutting the top and putting in some clear lexan with some acid etching. The black is PS2, white is clear lexan and the gray is what's going to be burned in.

Any opinions? the [PS2] is the same direction as original so imagine you're seeing it standing on it's side. (cdrom/power top right)

EDIT: Also, the lights will be blue. I was gonna do green but I kept thinking Xbox with that.

Can you fit an 80mm fan there? that would be an interesting thing to see.

Oh BTW there is no way you will fit an 80mm fan inside the PS2 there, or anywhere for that matter. I don’t know if you where planning on actually mounting it to the out side of the case in that area or what. But inside would be a no go.

Yeah I didnt think so either. But how about those 12 volt (dc) Micro Fan 40mm (radioShack model #273-240). Those are quite a bit smaller. Maybe you can fit one of those somewhere in there.

Like this one?

Hell yeah you could fit that in there. In fact that would be very cool. Pun intended.

Its only about 3/8th's thick, I'm pretty sure it would fit, maybe not right over the heat sink but off to the side it might.

Thats the one. I currently have one of those underneath my xbox's hdd and it keeps that hella cool even during extended gameplay.

Im also thinkin that any airflow near the heatsink is a good idea.

So any good points where the 12v hot wire can go?

Yeah... on the back of the PSU where the 4 pins connect to the motherboard to give it power is a hot 12V source. However it’s always on when the ps2 is in standby. So this would mean your fan would be on all the time when in standby. But this shouldn’t be a big deal as the PS2 should be turned off with the switch when not in use anyway. You might want to put a fuse inline just to be on the safe side.

Here is a link to a picture of a V7 PSU i just took. The two circled areas are the 12V source. I can’t off hand remember which is + and which is - , I'll check latter or just use your meter to find out yourself.

I guess we could always put a switch on the fan itself too.

P.S. Couldnt we also just ground on one of the screws?

Yeah, you could switch the fan as well, but I would just use the switch on the back to turn the unit off when not in use, instead of letting it sit in standby. Yes you could use a screw for ground, all though if your talking about a case screw it would matter which one, and also it would be much more difficult then just using the ground that I showed. You have + and - right there together so why not just use them both. That’s how I hook up the inverters for the EL wire on my case mods.
