HDD / Final Fantasy XI bootup trouble

I have a DMS with out-dated firmware.

I recently purchased the HDD/Final Fantasy 11 combo along with a network adapter.

I am having the following problems:

1) Backups will not boot unless fastmode is enabled.

2) PlayOnline will not boot when selected from HDD, even when chip is put into sleep/stealth mode. It just hangs at a black screen, or kicks back to the browser.

Some things to know; first time I tried to run PlayOnline, I had the modchip enabled.

I haven't tried with the FF11 disc inserted (can't PlayOnline/FF11 be booted via the HDD?).

Any advice?

Thanks for the tip.

I actually went ahead and upgraded to v1.8 of DMS firmware.

Well it turns out that you need to finalize the pre-install of FF11 by loading the PlayOnline CD first (wow, reading a manual helps!).

However, with the chip disabled, I get a RSOD with the retail PlayOnline CD. I tried a combination of holding RESET down and holding START down (fastboot) and the PlayOnline CD booted.

When it got to the DNAS verification screen, it immediately made the progress bar go away, the screen turn dark, and only the pointer was able to move.

So still no success. :/

Another update (heh).

I desoldered the power wire from the DMS3 and wrapped it in black electrical tape.

Now it is currently updating my PlayOnline viewer, which probably means it'll work from now on.

So my questions are as follows:

1) Why did the PlayOnline disc get RSOD even though it is retail and the chip was in sleep mode?

2) Has ANYONE been able to get this to work with a DMS3 installed?

3) Will the DMS3 2.0 firmware take care of this problem?

Thanks!
