Magic V 5K6 Chip

Hello, Noob here. I just purchased this chip from www.the-console-corner.com . They appear to be a great shop so far..what I am confused about is that they say on the site that the chip is for all V9 and V10 PS2's. All other Magic re-sellers state that it is only for V10. I have the following specs...NTSC,SCPH50001, the date code is 3C, the DVD version is 3.0U, thats about it. When I do a search, it seems as if there are so many different ways to tell the Version. Does anybody know if the Magic 5K6 will work on V9 also because I think that is what I have, and of course I can not return the chip if I try it and it does not work on my version.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

First off I see you’re in Germany. Second could you not find a place in Germany that sold chips?
www.the-console-corner.com is a great place; I have used them many times, but just wondering why you went with them. Also I have asked them the same question about the magic V 5k6 and why they have it stated that it supports both V9's and V10's. There answer was that neoasic (there supplier) told them it would work on both versions. I haven’t tested it out my self but I know from what I have seen others state that the Magic V 50k wont work on the V10's and the Magic V 5K6 wont work on the V9's.

I even asked this question awhile back at newz about the same time the V10's started to surface, and the Magic V 5k6's where just coming onto the market. Here is the thread.

By the way with your date code being 3C I would most likely say it’s a V9, if you didn’t know already

Well I have no idea where to get one here in Germany and I needed to use my Visa to byt the mod chip and some other stuff. So I did a search and found the console corner. I have a military mailbox so if they ship it Priority Mail it will get here quick. But anyhoo...I really think that I have the V9 like you said. I will look at the mainboards number today also. So if you say the 5K6 is only for the V10 why in the world would they advertize it for both? They would not take it back if it dont work I am sure. Seems like it will be a headache for them if the chip doesnt work for both versions for a lot of buyers. I emailed them and told them to send me both the Magic V 5K6 and the 50K...I did not get a response but what choice do I have?

Send it back mate i would. Or ask for a replacement v9 magic chip
