PS2 Version

OK, I hear everyone saying how the v7 is the best version of the PS2 you can get. My question is, is there any way to tell which version you're getting by looking at the retail box? What about the PS2's in those "bundles" that come with a game, network adapter, etc. Are there any particular version associated with those?

Well if the SCPH is 39000x (x meaning any number) then its a v7. If the SCPH is 5000x then its a v9 or v10.

Thats basically all you got when looking to buy one.

I'm pretty sure, V7s are the newer ones on sale now.

the new ones most stores are selling are V9s and V10s.. you would be lucky to find a v7 now!

The last PS2 I bought is a V7 and I bought it in Walmart, about last month.

Well, your wrong. Kinda. I still currently see a very small amount of PS2's that are v7 and they are only the online packs. But they are rapidly being sold out everywhere, leaving only the newer v9 or v10's.

So if I get a PS2 bundle with network adapter I have a good chance of getting a V7? i was looking to get that one anyway...

Many stores you can't exactly look at the SCPH number,
for example Circuit City, you pay for the PS2, then you go to the customer service desk and they bring it out to you.

I've never understood that.
Do they expect me to stick the PS2 in my underwear and sneak it out?

They keep the 40gb IPODs out on dispaly shelves.

Its the same at Ebgames, Walmart, ... I live in Florida man! There isn't any small video game shops. I have to go to giant department stores.

Well atleast theres always ebay.

Where I can get the exact verison I'm looking for.

Well yeah but, still Im sure you can politely ask the clerk to look for one for you. I mean if they really wanna sell you a system Im sure they will do a quick look. I think the bundle packs that have the v7's are blue and the new ones with the v9/10's are black.

I may have that backwards.

True...very true. I had a guy that purchased a V9 online bundle from eBay and he had the buyer mail it to me. This thing was suppose to be brand new/unopened. Little did the seller know that he was sending it to some one that knows what an opened PS2 looks like. It worked and everything was fine with it, but this shows that you just never really know.

Also you would be very lucky to find a V7 even if it was an online bundle. Here in Cali I haven’t seen V7's on the shelves in over 6 months, and all the online bundles are V9's as well. Best Buy is the best place to be able to see what version you are getting, at least it is here. As for the color of the V9, V10 online bundles box, it is a normal blue box with a black poster board sleeve that covers the blue box. I can’t remember what the V7 online bundle looked like, I thought it was the same but I could be wrong.
