DVD+R Regarding V9's
It's been awhile since I've come here, seems alot of things have changed since I left. Anyway, I was wondering if V9's could read DVD+R. I plan on fitting a Mars 2 modchip, and I'm now stuck with an old +R writer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah the V9's read +R media, but like I always suggest, I do believe DVD-R is the best and easiest on the laser.

And for experiment's sake, what would be the difference in the laser operation of the exact game, burned in a TDK DVD-R and TDK DVD+R(same brand, same data)? Thanks |

Well yes. If the disk media is difficult for the laser to read the LA/BA chip will get a as you put it a "request" from the laser head for more voltage to be sent to it so the coils can focus on the disc better, thus stressing a lot of components unnecessarily. The laser diode, the head coils, and the LA/BA its self all get stress put on them that wouldn’t be there if other wise good media was to be used. The LA/BA in fact can turn up the voltage so high to the laser head that it can burn out the coils, causing a short and thus burning up the LA/BA its self. This is the problem that they are having with the V9 units.
To answer your question about the +R verse -R the best way I know how to explain it is that the +R track of burned media is like a wiggle all the way around the disk, this is why it can burn a tad bit faster then -R media. Now the -R media is just a straight groove all the way around which stresses the laser much less. I'm no expert on DVD burning optics so take this info for what its worth and my own previous experiences that a PS2 will more often the not be able to boot -R better and seemingly faster the +R, this especially stands out with a laser that is not in good shape, to the point of it not even reading +R media and able to with -R media. I hope this some what helps explain this.
