Anyone have any experience with the new Gateway AR-230 DVD Recorder/Player ?

I have one on order and would like to know which DVD+R media are best for this recorder.

Thanks,

I'm afraid you missed the point, but thanks anyway.

Obviously I have looked at the specs; I am aware that the product uses DVD+R and DVD+R/W. What I don't know has to do with the relative compatability of different DVD+R media BRANDS.

We all know that some brands are more compatable than others.

Anyone else?

Thanks,
LGS

BAD NEWS. Ordered 25 of the Ritek 2.4x DVD+R disks.

They work fine in the Sony DRU-500AX mounted in my Dell Computer, but the Gateway AR-230 does not recognize them.

So far, I have tried Sony DVD+R and Ritek DVD+R in the Gateway machine. The Sony all work and the Ritek do not.

I can always use the disks in the Sony, but it is a shame that these less-expensive disks do not work in the Gateway machine.

Anyone else tried Ritek in the AR-230 ? ? ?

Try updating the firmware of your Gateway drive.

Thanks for the comment.

I contacted Gateway and downloaded the latest firmware for this DVD recorder.

Unfortunately, the Ritek disks still do not work, even though the Sony and Memorex work just fine. Too bad, as the Ritek are much less expensive.

Keep trying, I used to have to do this back in the day with cd burners. When I had a media it wouldnt detect I would update the firmware. Sometimes it takes a while for your particular brand to make the necessary changes and add a firmware that allows for the media you want.

After several attempts - not to mention pulling my hair out - I have about given up on the new Gateway AR-230 DVD Recorder.

It seems to work well with Sony DVD+R media, but that's about the extent of it. As we all know, the Sony are some of the most expensive. Great ! ! !

I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers from Gateway with little or no improvement. It still flunks the test with Ritek DVD+R media. My Sony DRU-500AX burner in my Dell computer has NO PROBLEMS with the Ritek media.

I am not ready to call the Gateway a piece of C . . P, but I am close.
