DVDr media for use as normal data backup/.mp3 playing?

Question for you... I am seeing the new 4.3 gig dvd media everywhere, and I thouht to myself, hmmm, thats a whole lot of .mp3's

So, the question is can a normal CDRW drive burn on this biger media as normal data? They are just bigger Capacity disks correct?

Oh, and would normal cd readers still read them? If my mp3 player reads mp3 format............ and the dvd media is burned with mp3 data...........?

Thanks for any info guys,
