Problems backing up!
After reading many post on this forum i decided to start backing up my games! I dont want to do this cause i've heard theres a new law out, saying you cant even make copies of games you orginally own! Its a worring situation but the truth of it is...orginal games dont last forever! And in the past i have lost games such as Kingpin, Alien vs Predator and Deus ex due to small scratch and general wear and tear!
I brought a pack of 50 cds and started on my collection! I thought it would be simple but i have come across many problems! I am using Nero 5.5.8.0 and Clone cd old edition and the newest clone cd with the sheep on it! I started backing up raven shield and when i tried to install it, the disc started spinning then stopped! Must of been a bad copy? So i go again! Its starts this time untill it gives me another message while installing! I got a message data error (cyclic redundancy check). I got this a few times now on raven shield and Judge dread! Also, i tried putting the iso into a winrar file and burning it has a data file but after i burned it, the cd started, i opened the winrar that was now on the disc and it started coping it to my desktop! It stopped at 65% and gave me the same error! Also, i tried coping just the iso to disc as data and that didnt work! I just dont get it! I have an ASUS 48x 16x 48x. Any help would be great! PS What does the option Protected games cd do on Clone cd? Cause i tried that and it dont make a difference to what i burn! Please help me!!!! Thanks Lee |

Yes, you will get a few coasters when starting out.
IMHO, Clone-CD is best software for backing up but like anything else, some practise will be required to obtain best results. Get yourself a copy of ClonyXXL to run in tandem with Clone-CD (see post in this forum from SoNy). ClonyXXL will identify copy protection on the disk and transfer settings to Clone-CD for the burn. Note: I have had best success in the past burning at lowest rate possible, even 1X. The additional wait is well worth it. Another note: I've also had some success backing up with Nero Express (which is traditionally best for audio CDs). Nero doesn't identify type of copy protection, but again, just by burning at lowest rate possible, I've had good results. Latest successful backup using Nero express was Elite Force II. Re. your burner, this is a really nice unit. I've got 2 Asus units on different PCs, the CRW4816A and the CRW5224A. Both are good, but IMHO the 4816 is better. Sorry - I don't know what the copy protection option is on Clone-CD. Imprtant: when using Clone-CD flag "Hide CDR media" option in Clone-CD tray must be flagged. Happy burning ! |
