Hi,

I know this is slightly off topic, but I'm just wondering what exactly makes ritek so good?

I've bought about 30 pieces of those from different places, and some are g03 and some are g04 under the brand ridata. Although they are 4x media, I've always had trouble burning them at 4x, it's either my new ps2 can't read it or it can't complete burning. Only burning at 2x will i get a 100% working copy.

Oh fyi, i've tried using rnmdx 4.6 and nero 6 and got the same results. I'm using the pioneer 106 with firmware version 1.07

Could anyone tell me whats wrong with this media? I've since switch back to Taiyo Yuden 2X media which are more expensive but works great.

Cheers

Jack

That is wierd. Usually burning at 4X is no probs for ps2 to read. An if it G04 ritek dye then u should have no probs. Have u tried runnin a cleaning disc through ur burner and the yr ps2?

???????? Not the dvd-r's. The DVD Burner and ps2 laser heads. Get a cleaning disc and run it through both of them.

Regards

I understand what you mean, what I'm saying is that I've not tried cleaning the laser heads yet, since both my 106 and ps2 are new (less than 2 weeks old).

I'll try that and see if it works

Cheers

ED!
I've actually had to clean a DVD-R before. I probably should run a cleaner through my PS2 just cause.

And I have a RIDATA included in the burner I got. Havent tried burning it yet though, and its a -RW.

If u've only had them 2 weeks then neither of them should need cleaning unless u'v been throwing handfuls of sand at them.

an if u can backup fine onto 0ther media and yr ps2 plays the backups okay then I can't explain why the ritek didn't work.

I would have suggested the back up method but as you've managed to back up on other media..............

Anyone else??? This is the first time that I've heard of ritek not working....Unless they are some wierd non ritek dye ritek media.

Unless.....U said that if u burn at 2 speed they work but not at 4 speed.......Is yr DVD Burner set up as a master ide drive or slave......Seems wierd that it can't complete the burn.

What system does yr pc use an have you got burner in master or slave port on ide bus?

I'm currently using windows XP professional on NTFS, HDD is Primary Master, burner in Secondary Master. Yes when i burn the disc at 2x, it works perfectly, but not at 4x, There was once that even burning at 2x gave me a problem, but I reckon that it's a defective media, (There's always a same percentage of media problem)

Yes I've managed to backup using other media with varying speeds, I've tried TDK -R @ 2x, +R @ 4x, all are working fine. I'll be trying some Taiyo Yuden 2x later this week.

I've even suspected the disc are not original ritek, therefore i run dvd identifier on it and it states Ritek, on the inner ring of the top side there's even this RIDATA branding.

In that case it could be a defective burner. Have u tried any other 4X DVD-R media in it an got a sucessful burn at 4X? Are u using the latest firmware update for the burner?

I've got this feeling too mate. I've managed to burn at 4x successfully using TDK +R, it works fine. I've just went out and buy some other brands of 4X -r and all gave me the same error about "Error writing to sector 10" or something like that.

It comes with the latest firmware of 1.07, I'm trying to download another copy of the firmware from pioneer and reflash it...(Might be the installed firmware sucks??)

Man is this drive picky or what..
