I had similar problem last week... Look at the DVD your trying to backup for any scratch or dirt. If you can, clean it. If you can't...too late to make a backup of it

If you have some minor scratches try polishing with car polish and a soft cloth. That will remove most moderate scratches.

I think I have found the problem. The original DVD has a small circle (approx 1/4") near the beginning of the disk write surface. It is perfectly round and appears to purposely be there.

My guess is it is a form of mechanical copy protection similar to the holes originally in a lot of software that was on 5 1/2" floppies (back when floppies were indeed floppy).

I've considered trying to rub it out but don't want to ruin the original.

Thanks for your help

Had these Myself DVD decrypter seems to create an ISO iamge ok when Clonedvd comes up with this error. I then use clone to write the image file as it reads these images OK.

When you say circles. Do you mean something of a warp or dent in the disc or actual scratched circles?

i think he is refering to a break in the write pattern on the cd. it starts then has a blank spot then continues( some sort of protection).
if i'm correct. there is a way to back it up but i cant remember how i did it. I found this on an audio cd once and it took me several attempts before i figured it out.

if memory serves me correctly, i had to copy it onto the hard drive and then burn it from there. (as previously mentioned)

Persistant Clone Error Message

The circle I am referring to is actually a visible outline of approx a 1/4" diameter circle. It looks as if someone purposely scratched the surface of the disk but it is a perfect circle. It is almost as if someone took the end of a pencil and removed the eraser then pressed the barrel of the eraser holder with perfect even pressure into the disk leaving the outline of the barrel in the write surface of the disk.

@Joeycam

Do you have the means to take a digital picture of this disc? Or even be able to scan it? If so please PM me either your email, or instant messenger info so maybe you can send me a pic of it.
