the slow decline
Hi all,
Here's the deal, Messiah 2 Pro, version 7 PS2. The thing, over time, is having a harder and harder and harder time loading DVD copies of games. The lens cleaner doesn't help anymore, in fact, I took it apart and the lens was spotless. Once it finally does start the game (after many resets), it runs good, even the video. What could the possibility be, a dying laser? The PS2 isn't even a year old. Any help from the geniuses here will be greatly appreciated.

I would try adjusting the pots slightly.

The use of cheap media often can do in a laser prematurely.

I've only used Ritek's.
Well, it's to the point where I can adjust the cog to one point and make about 1/3 of the games work, then move it elsewhere and it loads a few other games. The rest still won't load at all. Is it time for a new laser? If so, where's good place to order a v7 laser in the states, hopefully better than the one I started with, as this thing has always been kinda hokey. :S

Ahh thankee much, spedmetal!!
Thanks for the tip, dust! Is it clockwise or counterclockwise to turn up the juice? ![]() Actually, I have a bunch of questions, I'll go find a diagram or a how-to out on this 'internet' everyone keeps talking about.

Yeah dust is right once you start adjusting the lasers they seam to fade even quicker. But its OK if you just want to get a little more life out of your machine and if it does go you can always get a new one. Any ways yes you turn them clock wise and I would recommend that you use a multi meter and measure the resistance across the pots before you start messing with it just in case you need to go back to what they where at. Also I wouldn't go below 850 Ohms on either pot, the factory settings are around 1000-1200 Ohms. I have heard of guys going as low as 650 Ohms but if you have to go that low you surely have a bad laser and might as well just get a new one. Also like dust said only adjust a little at a time I would recommend only doing down like 50 Ohms at a time. This is a very minuet adjustment. Also there is a good tutorial here http://megagames.com/ps2/ps2_laser_a...nt_scope.shtml . It uses an o-scope which is pretty expensive to buy but has some good info on adjusting the laser and will give you a good idea of how to do it with the multi meter. Good luck

Thanks much, man. I'm guessing since CDs load fine I should just stick to adjusting the DVD resistor, eh?

WOW!! This sucker is working great!! What a difference! I ended turning both screws about 1/8th of a full circle, does that sound about right, or maybe is it too much?
