Hi i was just looking at the settings on my pioneer 106.
The disconnect setting was enabled by default. But when i right click and click on whats this? It tells me this setting is for scsi devices only. Should this setting be enabled on an ide device and what does it actually do? Also a question about the region. The drive currently has no region set. Is it better to keep it this way or will this cause problems when trying to rip dvd films. I noticed dvd decryptor brings up a message asking for region to be set but smart ripper does not . Would you say smart ripper is a better program at all? |

Don't worry about the disconnect option if you have a 106 [IDE], yes this option does only apply to SCSI devices, the option (when checked) allows the SCSI ID set on the drive to be used on another device.
about the region: it will have a region set soon, it does not remain region free forever. after playing so many discs from a certain zone (i think you get 5 goes) it is then locked into the drive. but worry not, you can go region free read here then free your drive

Ok ill just leave the setting enabled anyway like it was by default.
Another thing about the region setting , i know in windows xp you can go into your dvd writer settings and see what region its on and how many changes are left . But how do you see that setting in older versions of windows. Im running windows ME at the moment and when i go into the settings for the dvd writer i dont see anything about the region. Any ideas? I probably wont need to use any dvd films except region 2 on the drive anyway so maybe ill just leave it as it is , but if you dont actually set it can it cause problems when ripping? I wasnt under the impression that it would cause any problems. One last thing can you backup the old firmware and put it back on if something goes wrong? Would that site have that kind of information also?? Thanks for the info. |
