Diagnostic Mode

Can somebody tell me a little about this: DIAGNOSTIC MODE

what is it doing when it's on? do you leave it on all the time?

does it go to off when you turn the machine off?

I know it's in the manual but i i don't know where it is

thanks,

Diagnostic mode is a self-correction routine that the PS2 uses to adjust various things in order to keep the unit playing discs as smoothly as possible. i'm fairly sure it adjusts the spin speed, amongst other things.

yes when you switch the diagnostic mode on it will run in diagnotic mode until you switch the ps2 off (or reset). the mode will be switched off again when you switch the ps2 back on again.

yes it's explained in the manual too, can't remember which page though.

Be careful using the diagnostic mode on V4 and earlier consoles. I once had a V4 that I had to adjust the lazer to read CD-R's and DVD-r's and just when I had it humming right along and reading everything just fine I thought to myself " OK lets go just one step farther and do the diagnostics on it". Well guess what.... after I did that it wouldn't read DVD-R's or CD-R's once again and I had to readjust the lazer once more.

It should be fine if your lazer is in fairly good condition. The unit I was talking about really should have just had a new lazer put in it. Are you useing back ups on your PS2? Because if I remember right the diagnastics mode will only adjust the lazer on a original CD but I could be wrong.
