Question Cyclic redundancy check

Hi.
Im trying to install Breakthrough and i am getting the following error:

Component: SafeDisc Build
File Group: App Executables
File: D:\Setup\data2.cab
Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

I have tried 2 CD's. The first one had the same error @ 43% and now this one occurs @ 27%. An ideas? Anyone? Help - please!!!

Try reading at a slower speed and using better media to record onto.
CRC errors can be due to scratched/dirty source disks - so try giving them a clean also.

Cyclic redundancy

ok.
How about an image? I tried making an image of the cd and mounted the image and tried installing that wasy - same error.
That would not have to do with dirty or scratched media at all.
And then - 2 cd's - bad???
Any suggestions?

Of course it would - it would indicate that the original media you are reading from is dirty/scratched or that cd drive you are using to read the image from is a poor reader - maybe dirty laser.

Thanks for the suggestion. But the media is not dirty - i have tried these cd's on different computers - and the chance of 2 brand new cd's being "dirty" or scratched is really slim - do you have any suggestions about crc errors?? On the 1st cd it occurs at 47% and the seacond CD it occurs at 27%.

Have you tried

a) Reading at a much slower speed
b) Making the image with a different optical drive.

Hi all - thank you for your suggestions.

So far the issue looks like a bad or dirty media.
EA support also suggested it was a bad cd - well 2nd cd is doing the same thing, but at 27% instead of 47%.
This cd works ona different pc with the same os (xp).
A friend of a friend has the same issue when trying to create a backup for his cd.
I dont think this error is media related - maybe a protection or cd read settings - although read speed is at 4x.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

It's certinely not a copy protection issue, could you try using a different drive to make the image please

crc is a checksum for detecting errors. it is not, in any way, shape, or form, a copy protection.

cleaning the disc may help. using a different reader may help. cleaning the laser may help. since the disc works on a different pc, its probably a hardware issue.
