Need keygen for Doom 3 beta
Ok, now that I've got the attention of every mod on the planet
Seriously, it seems that there was a time a little while ago that the warez-kids were being banned from the board quicker than could can say "byebye". Now it seems they get warnings more often than not...I think this maybe could be encouraging them to ask more questions under different nicks, perhaps? It just seems there was less of an influx of warez-kid assholes when they knew it meant getting banned. Just my two cents. |

The current stance is that people are fallible, ergo people get a second chance except when the issue is deemed too serious. I try to ban as few people as possible, because I want to make banishment a statement. I want to tell to the world "See, this jerk is so bad, RincewindTheWiz banned him !". Banning everyone left right and centre like happens on some sites, devaluates banishments and makes them look like a part of normal board life. I can't do anything more severe than a ban (usually
) so I'd like it to have some meaning.I personally believe more in catching as much as I can, versus the approach of punishing as severely as possible. One look at this board will show that any whiff of warez talk gets sniffed out by our dedicated team of top mods. So why would we have to ban people for the first offense ? Most of them don't know any better. I'd rather have them stay and adapt, and ultimately contribute to the board, than swatting them immediately by the dozens each day. It's a matter of approach. Some of the people who are now the most senior members and best contributors, also made a little error in the past. They adapted and they're still here. That's all I ask from people : stop doing it and get with the program. If I DO ban someone for repeated board violations, he's free to make another account and try again. If he learned his lesson, he won't get into trouble anymore, if he didn't, he will. It's that simple. Ultimately we can't stop people who are dedicated and skillfull enough to deceive us. But that's not important anyway, let them have their little victory. As long as the board itself is in good health, it doesn't matter anyway. PS These are my views, some of my fellow mods think differently and may be a little more harsher/more lenient. YMMV |

Has the warning point system been considered for this board?

Hi guys, just one idea that I've been thinking of for some time. It is not allowing new forum members to post new articles for some time: a few days, a week or something. Let them read articles and get acquainted with the forum first. This _might_ help those "fallible" people because they will, hopefully, make less mistakes if they can't ask (then stupid) questions right away. Of course, you can't do anything with people who are _not willing_ to learn anyway...

Gamecopyworld and Fileforums make it quite clear when entering the site.
Gamecopyworld requests - You are ONLY allowed to ENTER GameCopyWorld if you need information to make a backup of an Original Game CD of which you are the legal owner. By Clicking the ENTER button you agree with the above Notice! As far as Fileforums is concerned - The Official Board Rules. Read it or get banned. These state quite clearly - 1. No talking about warez - do not ask where to download warez, or how to get it to work. Instant ban applicable. 2. No requests for serials - if you bought the game then you own a unique serial. Use it! It seems to be that unless instant bans are applied then you will always get illegal requests. Instant bans are the punishment for flouting the rules. That is exactly what happened when Swenske and zedy were moderators here Last edited by Sidney; 14-06-2004 at 23:21. |

Hi guys,
@ash2dust2: Not only warez kiddies but also spammers may be discouraged about the initial forbidding of posting articles. After all, who would bother to wait for hours or days just to be able to drop some bull****...? @Sidney: Part of my job is user support. Believe me, I know _very well_ that most people are simply not used to reading _before_ asking! However, if you "help" them by actively calling their attention to the forum stickies (the constantly updated and always current forum rules) or just the general idea of getting familiar with the forum (or _any_ forum, for that matter) before really using it (posting articles) then that may also help them, not only us. (Of course, provided that they're willing to learn, as I said before!) But you really gotta do that at the very moment that their registration is finished, with large, bold and blinking letters so that they don't have the chance to not notice! _Then_ will it be completely acceptable for everyone to apply instant bans upon the violation of forum rules. (And, even then, be gentle with people when they violate _new_ forum rules: ones that have been added in the last X days/weeks...)Joe
