Doesnt fall into the MMORPG Category, but Enemy Territory is a free FPS from ID Software/Splash Damage. Similar to the online mode of Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Very popular online too.

Hehe I think CS are leading with horse steps in popularity..specialy when it's release a free install version of CS from Valve!

But I can't it work...so I can't say if it's god. But must be the most popular game of the world right now (and it's free)

If you're looking for some quick action that you can join at any time and play for a few minutes or many hours, Continuum (subspace) is a great free one. You can play as a 1 man team against everyone, or get on a team. Either way can earn respect.

I've played since beta and I still get owned once in a while. Its very rough and hard for newbies.
