yep thats about the jist of it.
i would recomend you read the sticky labled DATA BURN METHOD WITH SCREEN SHOTS also before you burn the disc you will need to patch newer games using a tool called isocraxtion.

dvd burner preferabley - r format £100/£150 roughley

pc nic card £10.00 from pc world or any good pc store
pc network crossover cable £5.00

ftp programme prices differ but you can get realy good ftp programmes for free if you look.

it's pretty easy to set up the network. once you have all the kit post back

a nic card is basically a network card and you must specifically have a crossover cable not a standard network cable. best to ask instore if you'r unsure

EDIT: would an "Ultra 4x4x12x DVD+RW Burner, 16x10x32x CD-RW" be ok in terms of burning DVDs, Back-ups, and such?

you can get a crossover cable from any good electronics store. as for dvd+rw hmmm i have used these in the past with poor results i strongley recomend you go for a dvd-r format burner a very good make would be
pioneer a04 x2 speed writer or a05 x4 speed writer or a06 x4 speed writer

-r/rw is by far the most compatible format for xbox ps2 dvd movies etc also has cheaper media that the +r/rw format.
