Actually it all depends on your ps2's laser settings. Just about any ps2 can read DVD-RW but some are set differently and just wont do it.

To correct Snake2's post. You have a better chance with newer ps2 models than you do with the older ones.

It not worth it though. In the long run you'll just wear out the laser quicker as dvd rw are harder to read than dvd-r due to a lower reflectivity level.
