i need alotta help

Next month I go back to school and my dormmates all own PS2's. I recently received a SONY DRU-510A for my B-DAY and I wanted to start backing up my games. My roomates liked the idea and want to do the same. We all have different model PS2s. I know mine is a US version 1 cause i bought it on launch day. My friends aren't sure what version they own and I understand it matters.

1) how do i identifly what model a PS2 is?

2) is there a chip that is compatible with all PS2 models?

3) best chip(s)? is there a site that compares the features of different chips?

4) DVD+r or -r? Once again is there a media that is compatible with all PS2 versions? Best Brand?

5) Is it true backups don't work online?

ok first off ur version 1 ps2 u might as well sell it cause they suck and wont play backups and heres the specs for the version 30001 = 1-3 35001 = v4 30001 R =v5-6 39001 = v7 and about what the best chips to get messiah 2 is great but lil pricey but u can get a apple pro one of the other best chips for 20$ which is relly good price or for 30$ u can get a no solder mod with swap magic and u dont have to have it pro installed and v,5,6,7 will play dvd+r and v5,6,7 with play dvd-r if i was u i would go with the dvd-r there around 1$ each off the net.

1. http://freedomlives.com/ps2_version_identification.htm

2. All of the big name chips are compatible with all versions.

3. Messiah 2( www.messiah2.com ), DMS3( www.dms3.com ), and Apple Pro( www.apple-chip.com ) are the top dogs.

4. If you have a v1-v4 use -r. If you have a v5 or higher it doesn't really matter. Ritek is a great brand to go with (available online only)

5. Older online games you won't have a problem with, but the newer releases now have a protection that doesn't allow you to go online with a backup. A way around this is being worked on.

Don't mod your v1. You will just run into problems with your laser, as v1-v3 lasers sucked. v4 are so so. v5 and up are best.
