Ideas on hacking?

Well I'm just throwing out ideas here but I'm gonna give it a whirl....

Problem 1:
Reading the GC disk.
Couldn't someone write an FTP server that could be downloaded to the cube using the PSO method, then FTP the files off the cube. If the SubData is important, perhaps that could be read in some way as well?

Problem 2:
Burning the disk.
Since the GC seems to read from the opposite side of the disc as a standard DVD, you would need to account for this. You possibly could write a program that constructs an ISO image (Not standard ISO) that matches this layout then write this to the mini DVD. Something similar to the special ISO tools in use on Xbox.

Problem 3:
Booting the disk.
Freeloader may be the solution to this problem, but until steps 1 & 2 are complete we won't know now will we?

The big wildcard here is the subdata. We don't know what it is used for. Perhaps the subdata is only used for authentication. If so the subdata on the freeloader should take care of that. If used for something more... Say encryption, well we'll just have to figure that out.

Anyway, as i said, this is nothing more than smoke. Just a gut feel on what might work!

Morden.

1. I believe the game disks can already be copied. There have been several releases floating around.

The problem is running the games. You will no doubt need a modchip to play backups. Nintendo wouldn't make the same sloppy mistake after seeing it done on sony's PS2. So as soon as a modchip is completed (and it is in the works), you will have your emulators and backups.
