Experienced backer upers help needed!

Hi
I seem to be having a problem doing my first back up on my new xbox,i got it pre chipped from an online store fitted with an executer 2.1, which states that it uses a new no patch hack and runs any kind of media even cdr's especially as its a newer model xbox

now the game im tryin to back up is JSRF, ive ftp'ed to the box and transferred all files across, used xISO to make an iso and burned it using recordnow max 4.5 30 day trial version, put it in my xbox and it doesnt recognize the disc, 1 coaster successfuly created

I then tried doing the data burn method and followed it exactly step by step, 2nd coaster created

I then thought maybe it does need patching, acquired craxtion prog and that told me it dont need it so that obviously isnt the problem, im not sure what else i can try, the chip works as i obviously have evox installed

Is it the game? Im loathe to try another one now as i have only 2 spare blanks left, im using Mirror Platinum DVD+R's in a ricoh MP5125A with latest firmware, yet the site i bought the console from stated that the xbox has no problems using cheapo unbranded dvds of either format, it even runs cheapo unbranded cdr's as i put my mame emulator on one.

Can anyone here help me out with any info please? ive been through all the sticky's twice now and i really really dont want to take my 80 gig hdd out of my pc and put it in the xbox as i really need it in my pc

TIA
finga

I have had trouble in the past with creating an iso to burn to disc but data burn has worked for me everytime. Only advice I can think of is burn slow and close down anything and everything that isn't neccessary when you are burning.

it failed again, but i now know why, or at least part of the explanation, i did it again but on 1x, put it in xbox, still didnt recognize disc, put the damn disc back into my pc and nothing is registered on the dvd, nothing at all, it says free space 0 used space 0, my burner is firing blanks! but only with dvd's it would seem, lol, this is some kind of aspi mess up do u think? im using xp, never had a problem b4 but i did put new aspi's on the other day before i tried backing up JSRF

im gonna boot on win ME (dual boot) and see what happens, everything is default on there, any light u can shed on this would be extremely appreciated as i dont like using win ME and only have it installed so i can make use of my vortex2 soundcard when playing half life

Are you sure your not "test buring" the back up? It will ack just like a burn but not really burn. Just a thought.

And PLEASE take ME off your system, I don't know why any one would ever use it. ME is the most worthless OS Microsoft ever made. I would use DOS over ME.

its not test burning, when i boot on ME the disc contents are recognized by the drive, and i can explore the dvd, but not on XP

and i really need ME as microsoft deemed it unneccessary to include any support whatsoever for vortex 2 chipset soundcards and as a3d pisses on eax from a great height i prefer to play half life on that os, but ur right, ME does suck

anyway i burnt again on ME and guess what, my xbox dont recognize the disc
this is beginning to wind me up now, 4 discs are now under coffee mugs, knew i shoulda got re-writables

do u think its a media problem, even tho the ad on the site i got my box from stated that it will run any media including unbranded ones?

Could possibly be a media issue. What brand are you using? I have a Thompson drive in my Xbox. I use +R media which it just doesn't seem to like. I know Ritek -R is a good media to try. I have also heard sony and fuji work well. Just don't ever use any media made my Memorex.

mmm...?

A bit of a strange one i might say. Have you tried using DVD-R's and not the + discs. As it's best to try and narrow things down a bit. Also, try using another game instead of JSRF and would suggest also, that you download the latest PX engine update for MAX. Make sure your burner is set as a master on the secondary IDE and enable DMA instead of PIO and try updating the BIOS on your chip to the latest build (4977). I basically stay with DVD-r media which have a dark purple write surface, never had a problem so far. Even with you saying that your machine is supposed to read cheapo disks don't always count on that.

And a word of advice stay away for Xiso, as it's sucks big time, full of bugs, etc. Stick to the Data Burn Method. as i've made over 100 backups using it.

ive tried 2 games now, the other is morrowind

just got my hands on isomaker 2.0 and am now trying that instead of xiso for a diff iso image

the data burn method just isnt working for me at all, which is wierd as all you guys have no problem with it

i have the latest px helper, use rn max to record all my ps2 back ups and never had a problem with it, just these xbox ones

anyway, burning my last attempt now, and no im not posting this from the same machine, hehe

if this dont work the 80 gig is going in cuz id rather splash out on a new hdd than 100's of shiny round mug placers lol

thx for all your answers tho guys, ill be back tomorrow, 1.40am here now, thank god i finish work on a friday dinner time

/Edit
forgot to mention my burner is +R/+RW only, didnt work again, tomorrow im gonna pick up 1 blank of a different media, format my d partition and reinstall xp, rn max and try again, if it dont work its the bloody burner gotta be hasnt it?!?

I can say the DVD+R & RWs work just fine with the XBox.

So you just updated your ASPI drivers the other day? Have you made a successful backup for PS2 since then. I would suggest that you try that. If that also fails then the aspi is probably at fault. If not I would go ahead and redo them anyway. It's quick and wouldn't hurt to try.

That is what I use on homebrew apps. The databurn method works for xbox games flawlessly, but I have problems with it for homebrewn stuff. Maybe the new xbo signing utility will fix that.
