How to test reflectivity???
Hey I was just wondering if there is any way to test the reflectivity of dvd-r's if so how? As I bought a couple of cheap DVD-r's (I know the reflectivity is more than likely going to be bad) and I would like to know abouts what the reflectivity is

I don't believe there is a way to test it, but the manufactorer should be able to tell you.

There is not a test for it that consumers can do......
The general rule of thumb is..... The darker the bottom the better they work..... Lighter color discs don't seem to perform as well as darker colors..... (At least for dvd discs)

Reflectivity
You have used the term "reflectivity", and then you ask what is "reflectivity". I suppose that it means how good can a cd/dvd drive read the information written on a CD or DVD media.
NERO has a good program that can test the quality of reading from a written cd or dvd disk. (it stops working if you enter a blank disk to the drive!). The program is called NERO DRIVE SPEED. It is included in NERO 6 tool kit. Among the rest, it can make a surface scan on your disk and show damaged or bad sectors on the disk, it shows the percentage of the damaged/bad sectors, and while working it shows the read speed at each sector of the disk. I think it is also a free ware program. If you need help, please send an email directly to my mail address. |

Dont worry about a reflectivity test...
The best test is the "how well can I see my hand behind the disc" test.. Hold the dvd with your hand behind the disc (i.e. the palm of your hand facing the top of the disc) look from the dye side, if you can see the outline of your hand very well, the disc is not good and the dye very light (and if you have a good brand then you have bought a fake disc, which have been reported lately) All dyes should be dark or deep in colour. Also make sure you bought an A or A+ grade disc, if the person who sold you said they were and your discs have marks or scratches then he lied to you. |

And if you can see through it easily like the hand test, then its possible your discs arent legit..
There is a lot of fake media out there. |
