Backing up to VirtualCD

Hello everyone!
The problem is: i have a SafeDisk protected game-cd and want to copy it to my HDD to play it from VirtualCD.
1. i made a cd-image
2. used unSafeDisk to crack - result is unprotected .exe file
3. rename/added testme.exe to cd-image
4. converted image to .FCD

and ??? it doesn't work, keeping on asking for game cd, or hanging when i try to run the original executable.

What is my mistake? Any hints on how to handle this kind of situation?

P.S. I can download nocd pathes for peculiar games, make CloneCD 1:1 copy. But it doesn't solve the problem of playing games from HDD.

P.P.S. If this post seems too stupid - sorry

Don't bother with VirtualCD, make image with CloneCD then mount it with Daemon-Tools - ####://www.daemon-tools.com/ - it's the best program for emulating CD/DVD drives, it also emulates most CD-protections.
Thanx. I'll try it. Comments later.

OK, i've tested Daemon-tools - the result is the same:
everything looks fine until i want to play the game. It still asks me to insert the game CD. Though the virtual cd drive is working correctly.

Any ideas how to break cd-check? Or is there anything else i should know?

P.S. Everything was tested on Need 4 Speed - High Stakes.

Now i see the problem. It's just that i've changed the default order of my cd's (virtual and physical). Leaving the 1-st cd drive daemon's dvd works fine.

what you can do copy the whole game to a directory in your hd and replace the game.exe with the one you downloaded, then you can burn it with nero

Thanx all of you.
As I've wrote before - everything is fine now. The problem was that i've changed the default order of my cd's. Virtual CD should state 1-st in the list.
As for Daemon tools - great solution.
Well, actually what I've done:
1. Grabbed a game using CloneCD.
2. Replaced game.exe with cracked one using WinIso (result - image.iso).
3. Enjoy the game!

P.S. Though Daemon-tools provide nice trick to play Safe-protected games, I prefer my own hacks. But still - Daemon-tools cool 8)
