80 gb Hard Drives !!

I just opened up another X-box .. and it also has a WD 80gb HD, right from the factory ...

The drive reads and formats as 80gb in the PC, but the xbox only see`s it as an 8gb..

Any idea`s on how to unlock these drives ?? for the x-box ??

Ummm, I guess you would have to first unlock it, formate it with EvoX to get the full 80GB outa it than do what ever you wanta do with it.

Tried that ....

I backed it up, and installed it in a PC, installed Windows XP on it and it was reconised as an 8gb ...

Reinstalled the drive in the Xbox, ran evox, and the old Xbox partitions came up ?? Still at 8 gb ..

Hmm ... i guess i goofed ...

WD80EB, according to Western digital, is not even listed ..

IF
WD400EB = 40gb
WD300EB = 30gb
WD200EB = 20gb
Then
WD80EB Prob = 8gb ..

And made in july 2002 ( i wonder what the price point was for an 8gb, rather than a 30gb, 12 months ago ?? )

I am glad I am not the only one that got all excited when I opened my XBox and there was an 80G hard drive in it. I thought for sure it was an 80G but then when I bought my new one WD and looked at it it said WD1200 so I realized they for whatever reason X 10 the Gigs

those are just the sizes microsoft decided to use. a 30 gb or higher hdd would have pushed the xbox price up even higher on it's launch.
and i know i was one who bought xbox on the day of it's launch for 365.00 sterling and only included halo and 1 pad.

Microsloth must have got a hell of a deal, to buy all those 8 and 10 gb harddrives no one else wanted..

I expect, once the " stock " of drives has been depleted, we may see 30 to 40 gb drives turn up ... After all, they would have to retool the line just to make a few thousand or so 8gb drives ..
