couple questions need help

ok was wanting to get a xbox and have it modded but they way it seems is that it is a lot harder to do than with a playstation 2 is it really that hard to do or does it just sound complicated. I would consider my use with a pc above avrage but I am no master was just wondering really how hard it is to figure out the first time I know it would get easier to do after awhile but for the first experience I dont really know. Another question is are the modchips hard to install.
here is my second question I know xbox games cant be read through my pc cd-rom. here is what im interested in I want to burn my games but Im trying to figure out if there is another way to do it then going through the process of a hub or router. Is there any software out thier that is being developed that will let a pc read the games so I can make a 1 on 1 copy of a game. If not and there will never be then has anyone tried to use a xbox cd drive on a pc will it work, not that I know of but can it be done. If we can somehow get the xbox drive in a pc have the software transfer the game through a 1 on 1 copy that would be sweet. It would save lots of time. from what Ive read the xbox drive reads the roms from inside-out. Unlike the pc rom drives which read from the outside. So if there is anyway to put a xbox rom drive in my pc then the pc would read from the inside out. I dont really know much about this but just a curious thought if anyone has more info on this which most of you probably do then any help would be appreciated thanks in advance

I'm not really sure what all your questions are because I don't feel like reading your Xbox essay.

I think most of the info you seek can be found by letting the Force guide you to the search feature of these forums.

Well to answer a few of your questions:

1) You dont have to use a router or hub, you can get a crossover cable, costs between $10 and $20. Use a direct connection from your PC to Xbox and use a FTP program to connect. There are lots of good tutorials on this one.

2) I dont think you could ever get a Xbox drive to run on your PC. I havent looked closely but I would assume the drive in the Xbox runs on a different format than your standard IDE or SCSI drives in your PC. Besides if it reads the disc differently, your PC would have a hard time understanding the data being read.

3) Getting an Xbox modded by a professional is the way to go. Don't do it yourself unless you are really comfortable with a soldering iron and electronics configuration. The $80 you spend to get a pro to do it is better than the $200 to get a new box.

These are just a few quick tidbits. Hope it helps.

simpley connecting the xbox dvd drive to your pc will not work.
it's not just the dvd drive that decodes the games it's a combination of software and hardware in the xbox.

I have a PS/2 and an Xbox. The only mistake i made by buying the Xbox, is i got a PS/2 first.

I can only go on my own problems with my PS/2 experiance. The PS/2 is real picky on DVD`s, the lasers wear out very quickly on cheaper media, the brand of DVD that works best, will depend on several factors, i had to buy the $15cdn or better ( each ) DVDrw, or i wouldnt get the games to load.

With the Xbox, just change the HD to a 120gb, use HDloader and install the game on the hard drive, no DVD required.
Every few weeks i attatch the Xbox to my PC and make backups of the games i have installed . Normally i can get between 3 & 4 games on 1 bootable DVD ( using craxation ) I use the TDK DVDr media 4 for $15 ..

With a couple of kids, the originals are better kept in the DVD cases.

I personally dont find the X-box any harder than the PS/2 to back up. and the mod chip is much easier to install.

Well its not like I was rude, Dude!

I usually try to help if I can but I saw that post and feared another " My chum at school says hes a little pirate and steals the crap and give me a step by step on how I can do it for practically free and without effort FAQ...."

Not knowing something is very forgivable - not willing to look, listen, or try is NOT.

In any smaller posts I will offer any info that might help your problems but here Passwolf and Dude seem to have answered you and they know what they are talking about (except for hinting that I'm rude! . )

DUDE

i meant no offence by my post. i noticed you have a rather short fuse towards our noob friends. yes i agree it is a pain in the ass when some one posts without reading the rules or searching first but as it's not manditory i can't see that happening.

i respect your input but you gota remember every one is a noob at some point.

if your still undecided about whether to buy an x-box or ps2 let me decide for you, GET AN X-BOX i've both and my ps2 is gathering dust, the x-box has better game graphics, take a look at splinter cell then look at the sad ps2 version of splinter cell its terrible in comparison.

cool I got no problems with noobs - just people who won't try to help themselves before crying for help

looks like this is turning into a PS2 vs. Xbox thread - I think Xbox wins cause its got more powerful hardware (hopefully the software will take advantage of it more in this year's releases)
