Messiah Install Prob's

Ok I installed the messiah 2 pro chip that I got from charlie.

This is my first install. Everything looks good. I can't see any bridging or splattering of solder. I checked all the wires again to make sure that they were attached in the right spot.

Here's what happens : The ps2 plays all original ps2 games and ps1 games. It will even play a back up dvd movie. But it will not play a ps1 or ps2 back up. It always goes to the screen that says please insert a ps1 or ps2 formatted game. "The red screen".

It almost seems like it doesn't even know the messiah chip is there.

Anybody have any ideas of what could be wrong? THANKS!!

Well I'm pretty new at all of this so I don't really know how to adjust the laser. I usually like challenges that is why I wanted to try the install myself. I have installed chips in ps1's before but that is no comparison.

I still would like to fix it myself but I would probably recommend spending the money to have someone else do it for you. It took most of a day to do it myself. But it still isn't working.

Have you tested PS1 CD-R's? These are more easily readable by the laser, if it boots cd-r ok then it is probably the laser. What version do you have? Older versions have weak lasers. If all else fails open PS2 and check wires again. It isn't rare that wires fall off during reassembly. If a wire fell off from the sound of it I would suspect the power wire. It is difficult to get a good connection on it.

No cd-r back ups won't play either. This is a brand new ps2 v7. So I don't think that it is the laser. I just got done taking the cover off again but the wires all looked pretty good. That is an idea about the power wire bacause it seems like the chip is just not working. I don't think I have any thing shorted because the ps2 runs great other than no ps1 or ps2 back ups.

I'll go ahead and pull the power wire off and do it again just to see if that is it. Thanks for the ideas guys!!

check the trace cut on the bottom of the chip, if at all possible, the power trace needs to be cut in your case, or make sure that the ground is properly grounded

ps1 backups work so chip has power and is working

ps1 needs power ground scex to boot (needs others to initalise chip when first installed)

ps2 is what takes into account all the other connections

new v7 boots dvdr films so its not the laser

check recheck for bridges and solder balls

the track would been drilled he bought it from us

check the actel chip legs for bridging (2 pins to grd and 2 pins to A should be bridged) but no others

any chance of a picture of the install?,as close much detail as possible

Here's a thought, have u used the right wire for installation as this can make a hell of a difference.

U need to use awg 30 for all signal connections and awg 23 for power and ground.

If u using for instance awg 23 for the lot u could run into problems.

I got a question. When you boot your PS1 originals do you have to hold reset as you would if the chip is working or can you still boot your PS1 originals like there is no chip installed?

Sorry fellas Just got home from work. Well I took some advice from some other folks and rechecked my power wire. I pulled on it pretty good and it came off. I even think that I pulled off all of the existing solder and now I can't get it reattached.

The wire that I used was 30 awg enamelled wire for all of the connections except for the power wire and the ground in which I used a 22 awg stranded wire.

I'm sure it is probably just an install problem in which I have learned : let someone else do it. I just wanted to try it myself to see if I could do it. I do have all the right tools but I have spent more time than it is worth. I have e-mailed Bill@ freedomlives.com and internationalgamingworld but neither have replied yet. If I can get Headly's e-mail address I will try him to.

Just a word of advice for the newbie. I'm pretty good with electronics and I'm sure that if I spent enough time on it I could get it to work. But for no more than it cost for some of the real pro's in the this forum just let them do it.

Thanks fror all of the help guys!!! It wasn't trying to save money : I just like to try to do things myself. I have e-mailed Headly and will wait to see what he has to say. I've got work and to many other things right now to try and start all over. So I think I will just let a pro fix it.

Thanks again for all of the help!!!
