What to replace?

I have a Dell inspiron with P2400 processor (dont laugh) 128 ram with a Tosh SD-M1612 dvd rom, and a Lite On 24102B burner running on Win XP home. I have purchased a Pioneer AO5 and I would like to know do I replace the Tosh or the Lite ON,

I would get rid of the lite on so you can use your Toshiba as a reader and your Pioneer strictly as a burner. This will lengthen the life span of your burner.

I would keep all 3..... That way you have your dvd-rom for reading dvd stuff, your A05 for burning dvds, and you lite-on for burning cd-r.....

Thats the way I have mine set up..... BUT you have to remember, I like to be different.....

If possible that would be the best option but he probably wouldn't be asking this question if he could do so.

BigHap! I noticed you said "lengthen the life of your burner." Any idea how long a burner normally lasts? I had a DVD-ROM, CD-R/W, and DVD-R (Pioneer 1A04) at home. I only had one channel and had to pick the DVD-R since I couldn't write a full DVD-R if I had the CD-R or DVD-R drive on the same cord. I didn't think burners had a "life span" since I've had my Sony CD-R for close to 6 years now. Any hints at all? I don't do too much with the DVD-R, just a few games or movies a week. I'm pretty sure my motherboard only has 1 plug that fits the main connection cord to the DVD-R, otherwise I'd just add a second channel.

There really is no way to tell. I have heard of one guy whos 104 or 105(can't remember) only lasted 20 burns. This is not normal but it can happen. You should be able to get a couple hundred burns no problem.

It's no dif to any piece of electrical equipment, some die inside a week, others go on for years problem free.

All you can do is take maximum care of your gear, using a CD-r drive instead of your 104/5 can only reduce the strain on the more expensive unit.
