Magic 3 Switch Mod

Has anyone tried doing this? has it proved to work successfully?

With the inevetable release of more and more games with anti-chip prevention its the next best thing rather than re-chipping the ps2 on each release.

just got kingdom hearts and got to a bit in the game where it refuses to load the next level... right after a long bit of playing with no save points!!! AGHHAHGHGH

any other thoughts on this?

cheers

There have been some members of other forums that have tried this, and have reported about a 75% success rate...

It has nothing to do with the games being "anti chip"... It has to do with the Magic 3...... This chip has been reported to have numerous problems.... Thus the reason the Magic 3.1 has been released....

Kingdom Hearts and (another reported problem game) Vice City freeze when playing on a Magic 3 chipped PS2....Not all Magic 3 chipped PS2's have this problem...

But, BOTH of these games play perfectly on the original Messiah, and the Messiah 2.....

i have vice city and have played it a LOT, and have only ever experianced one lock up.

i am trying to get hold of 3.1 my regular supplier but he says he cant get hold of them and that 3.5 is even worse.

i didnt do the origianal mod on my ps2, i "helped" i dont trust my shakey hands to unmod the magc 3 and put a 3.1 in there if i can get hold of one. so therefore this switch looked an easy solution.

if you dont mind me asking , what other forums have been playing about with this mod? (i have seen one at isonews.com and the guy seemed to think it worked

The Magic 3.5 is nothing more than a Magic 3 with clip kit... Its the same chip......

If you can't get the Magic 3.1......

Why not just get a Messiah 2.... Then you have no worries....

The guys over at PS2 Newz have quite a few posts about this switch....

well as i didnt mod the ps2 fully meself (not too good at the old soldering) it is going to be the next best option for me. and messiahs look a lot more tricky to fit than magic's.

anyhow.

went ahead and fitted a switch onto the chip/side of ps2 , as per diagram and it works a treat with kingdom hearts

gaahhh

gaaaahh!!
finnaly.. i find some info with the same problem i have.
I modded a ps2 with magic3, booted a backup.. and worked great.
but.. on the SAME SPOT it locks up on Kingdoms hearts (in intro, with alice in wonderland.. and a few other places).
so, if someone can please confirm that this is really the case.. i dont have to unsolder the chip AGAIN (maybe some info on whats wrong?)

The chip is whats wrong...... It has problems booting Kingdom Hearts and Vice City.... They tend to freeze for no reason...

Yes... It has been confirmed that the Magic 3 is the cause.....

I beleive they have the problems sorted out in the new Magic 3.1...
