Factoids: Primo DVD Tutorial (By Charlie_PS2)
MAKING A DVD BACKUP FROM A PS2 ORIGINAL DVD GAME
By Charlie - Premium Member Fileforums - 30-Nov-2001 DISCLAIMER This material is offered without liability on the part of its author for any consequences that may arise from its use. Use of the material is entirely at the risk of the user. 1 Place an image of the DVD on your hard disk 101 Put the PS2 DVD from which you want to copy into the DVR drive (e.g. Pioneer DVR A03). 102 Open the PrimoDVD application and on the opening screen, hit the button Go to Full Application ![]() 103 With reference to the illustration below, right click the drive that is your DVR and select “Disc Explorer and Drive Properties” from the options offered to you; a dialogue box will appear as shown. 104 Check in the Disc Explorer window that the Source DVD is registered, clicking “Refresh” if not sure. 105 Click on the “Global-Image” button (105a) and then enter the path/name of the file that will contain the DVD image (105b). It should have a .GI extension. Then click on “Build” (105c). 106 The image will now be built to your selected hard disk location. When this is complete (as confirmed by a dialogue box), close the “Disc Explorer” window. 2 Burn the image from hard disk back to a DVD-R 201 With reference to the illustration below (201), ensure that the following conditions are TRUE: “Auto Insert Notification OFF”; “Autorun Shield ON” (Menu item Options/General). Then click on the “Global Image” button (201b) to reveal the recording window (see 202 below). ![]() 202 Enter the name of your previously staged image file, browsing if necessary to locate it (202a). If you have browsed for the .GI file, you will see a “Track Image” dialogue box; select the desired .GI file and click the “Open” button; the dialogue box will close. Then DOUBLE CLICK on the DVD Drive (202b) to select it for the operation. Go to the recording window and on the third drop down box from the left (202c) select “Test and if OK, Record”. Select the speed (202d); use “MAX” if you are using branded media, “1x” for unbranded media. Finally, click the record button (202e). You will be prompted in s dialogue box to confirm that you wish to burn the DVD-R and you should click the red record button again. The Test/Burn session will now commence. ![]() 203 You can observe the Test/Burn progress on an indicator bar. As a guide, each phase will take between 30 and 45 minutes at MAX and double that at 1x speed. The size of the PS2 games is an obvious factor. When the process is complete you should see a dialogue box to that effect as illustrated below. ![]() 3 Playing the DVD-R 301 The method for playing a DVD-R backup game varies according to modchip. This matter is not covered in any depth here save for an outline description. 302 The newest breed of modchip (e.g. MESSIAH from Channel Technology) allows a properly created DVD-R to be booted directly without any other form of bboting aid. 303 For Jap PS2s (models SCPH 10000/15000/18000), the Modchip.com original modchip (workingfor CD games in conjunction with the Utility Disk and auto ejecting with a 3 second swap delay) allows an original DVD game with a Table of Contents (TOC) larger than the target DVD-R game to be used as a boot disk to be swapped upon auto-eject with the DVD-R. 304 For other modchips (e.g. NEO2.x/4) please refer to the suppliers instructions or by reference to http://www.ps2ownz.com. END. I HOPE THIS HELPS EVERYONE..... P.S. Thanks go out to psx_Paul for the link.. and of course to Charlie_PS2 for writing such a GREAT tutorial in the first place....

MAKING A DVD BACKUP FROM A PS2 ORIGINAL DVD GAME USING RECORDNOW MAX By psx_paul – Die Hard Member FileForums - 16-Nov-2002 DISCLAIMER This material is offered without liability on the part of its author for any consequences that may arise from its use. Use of the material is entirely at the risk of the user. Place an image of the DVD on your hard disk Insert your PS2 DVD into your DVD-ROM drive. Load up RecordNow Max application. ![]() Select your DVD-ROM drive from the available drive icons in the top left panel. 101 - Now either right-click the drive, select “Drive>Disc Explorer and Drive Properties” or press “F4” on your keyboard. This will bring up the Disc Explorer and Drive Properties screen. ![]() (Note – tick the “Auto Refresh” box if you inserted you game after the application was loaded up, or if the game does not show in the “Disc Sessions and Tracks” area). 102 – Click on the “Global-Image” button. 103 – Enter the path/name of the file that will be the end image. Click the “…” box to browse to your chosen path. The image should end with a .gi extension. 104 – Select “Read Speed”, I always choose Min for speed. 105 – Click on the “Build” button. ![]() The image will now be copied to your chosen area. 106 – The bottom of the window shows the overall and current Read Speed, along with percentage complete bar. ![]() 107 – When the image has been fully copied to your chosen area you will see a message confirming that the operation has been completed successfully. Burn the image from hard disk back to a DVD-R Before burning back to DVD-R, check the following settings: * “Auto Insert Notification” is OFF * “Autorun Shield” is ON (Tools>Options>General tab) The bar along the bottom of the RecordNow Max application displays this information. ![]() 201 – Click on the “Image” button 202 – Select your DVD Recorder (eg. Pioneer A04/104) 203 – Select the number of “Copies”, the Burn Speed (1x or 2x depending on media), Select “Record and Verify” from the next drop-down box along, and finally “Verify every round”. 204 – Either locate the .gi image file from the drop-down box, or click on “Add file” then browse to your .gi image file. 205 – When you are happy with the settings, click on the red “Record” button. ![]() 206 – A confirmation screen will be displayed, either click on the “Record” button or leave for 5 seconds, the burn will then start. ![]() 207 – The progress bar displays remaining time and percentage completed. As you have selected “Record and Verify” in the settings above, the image will be recorded, then checked (Verify) against the original image. The size of the original game along with the burn speed determines how long each phase will take. In the example above using World Championship Snooker 2002 burning at 1x, it took around 17 minutes to complete each phase (35 minutes in total). Larger TOC games such as Metal Gear Solid 2 take a much longer time to complete (between 45 and 60 minutes per phase). Sit back and relax for a while, perhaps consuming a cold beverage or two. ![]() 208 – Congratulations, the overall burn process has been completed successfully.

_Factoids: Mac OS 9.2 & OS X Tutorial (by Elkay_ps2)
Hardware info.
A Pioneer AO3/4/5/6 can be installed into any G3/G4 Desktop Powermac by removing the standard cd-rom or dvd-rom and fitting the dvd-r in its place. Once installed update to at least Toast 5.0.2 as well as MAC OS 9.2 Minimum and the mac will then be able to burn to the Ao3/4/5/6. Ao7 to the best of my knowledge requires an update even under 10.3 the only one ive tried came from Lacie and there is an update available on their website (http://www.lacie.com.au) All the Superdrives in G5's, Powerbooks, G4 iBook's, iMac's and Emac's work too. BACKUP GUIDE (1) Roxio Toast (http://www.roxio.com) The Back-up procedures for both OS 9 & OS X they are the same but you require a newer version of toast to work on OS X. MAC OS 9.2 Required software: Roxio Toast 5.0.2 (must 5.0.2 version or higher to recognize A04/Superdrive.) MAC OS X Required software: Roxio Toast 5.1.4 (http://www.roxio.com) Recommend Toast 6 To make a straight copy of your original CD/DVD Use the diskcopy function within toast Open Toast application, make sure your cd/dvd burner shows up at the bottom of the screen, 1, Eject tray & insert original, wait till it mounts and shows up in toast, it will display the disk type as a CD-ROM XA if its a CD game or as a DVD-ROM if your trying to back-up a DVD based Game. 2, Then click "record" the game will be ripped to a temp file on your primary scratch disk. (make sure u have 4.7 BG free for a DVD Game or 700MB free for CD you can specify your scratch disk in toast preferences) 3, Once completed the disk tray will eject. 4, Swap the original with a blank disk. (DVD-R or CD-R obviously depending on what type of game it is) 5, Select your burn speed, (I burn all Cd's @ 4X and Dvd's @ 1x... feel free to experiment) 6, Click the Buffer Underrun Prevention option make sure its active. (if ur burner supports it) 7, Click "Record". Usual rip & burn times apply same as PC. This method works 100% on Neo 2.2, Magic 2 & 3 chips. so will also work with every other chip. Another toast related thing: To Save an image of the CD/DVD to your hardrive in case your out of blank media ect, just select Save image from the file menu one the disk has mounted , before you click record. (make sure you have enough disk space ![]() How to Use Cdrwin Bin/cue format images. To burn this type of Image file on mac is very easy, 1, Open Toast 2, select "Disc Image" 3, Drag the .bin file into the window. (dont worry about the .cue file this information is added automatically by selecting disk image) 4,Click Record. More formats like: .iso & .img work in the same way just drag the biggest file into toast disgarding the little 5-50 k info files. I have been unable to get .cdi (discjuggler) images to work correctly on Mac If u know how to do it please let me know and I'll add it into this factoid, giving you the cred for your input of cause. ( I basically just need to know the standard post & pre-gap settings discjuggler users use as well as the sector size) Just found this in relation to the .cdi stuff looks like a very long way round but.... will work : http://dcxeal.virtualave.net/mac.html (2)Apple's Disk Utility Bundled with OS X, find it in hd/applications/utilities/ 1, Open Disk utility and insert your game disk. 2, Click on the disk icon when it pops up on the left hand side of the Disk Utility window. http://www.geocities.com/elkayboot/dupic1.jpg 3, Click New Image from the icons accross the top 4,Name your image file, select desktop as the destination then select CD/DVD Master from the drop down menu and keep compression off. http://www.geocities.com/elkayboot/dupic2.jpg 5, Click Save. After its written the image file you will see the file pop up under the Disk icon in Disk Utility. 6,Select it and click "burn" from the top icons. http://www.geocities.com/elkayboot/dupic3.jpg Simple as that, havn't tried to burn pc image with Disk Utility ...... Use Toast! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ How to apply ppf patches to PS2 games on Mac Download PPF-o-Matic for mac from: http://www.megagames.com/ps2 its in the ps2 utilities section note: only PPF patches work! 1, Use Toast to save a disk image to your Hardrive. 2. Open PPF-o-Matic and select the image you just created. 3. Select the .ppf patch 4. Click on apply patch 5, Ignore the warning pop-up 6, Drag the patched image bact to toast under "Disc image" 7, Click "Record" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Feel free to ask any further questions just reply to this thread.
