What happens if you try and burn at two speed?? Does it bug out in mid burn??

If it does it doesn't necessarily mean that comms speed is the problem. Could be several other things. How many usb devices have you got plugged into yr pc??

Could be the media. My media only lets me burn at 1x but I get a working backup every time.

try using different burning software like PrimoDVD or Record Now Max. See if that lets you burn faster. Also but a dvdr in and get nero to do a media check. see if it recognising that it 2X media.

Good luck
