Use CloneCD for cd based games(blue backs) and either PrimoDvd or RecordNow Max for dvd based games.

You can use InstantCD/DVD to copy ps2 games. Go to InstantCopy, Select dvd as source and HD as destination, select PSX Profile and copy then Select HD as source and dvr as destination with no profile selected and burn away. Works just as good as Primo or RNM.

LOL............................

what version ps2 do you have?

It could be that you copied the game fine but yr ps2 won't read dvd+r. Have you tried it with any other DVD+R or dvd-r. What mod r u using?

Where can I find Instant DVD/CD? I did a search at futureshop.ca (Canada) and I couldn't find anything. Its the first time I've heard of it and have been looking to buy a DVD burner in the next little bit.

Cheers!

Vance, is your ps2 even modded? Also, PS2 lasers are very picky at the media you use. DVD-R will most definitly work every time. Even Princos are more compatible than the +r family.

You have a V7 PS2, so it should read the +R/+RW format..... NOW.....What type of mod chip do you have installed in your PS2?

what is a mod chip

first i got instant cd dvd from the vob website vobinc.com. it's probaly the best recording program out there. it can shrink a 9 gig dvd unto a 4 gig disk [after you rip the dvd to your hard drive with smartripper 2.41 or dvd decryptor]and it works with all cd and dvd recorders.

second what is a mod chip? I've just bought this playstation 2 and just figured i could burn ps2 games like i could movies.

No, that ain't how it works m8ee. DVD video backups don't need a mod chip. dvd rom backups do. If yr putting a dvd copy in and it ain't boooting thats why. You need to get a mod chip installed. I recomend Messiah 2 but any 'No Swap' mod chip is a good investment. Once you've done this you will have no probs getting a version 7 PS2 to read dvd+r or dvd+rw games.

Also InstantCD/DVD ain't that good. I would recomend PrimoDVD2 or Stomp Record Now Max to copy ps2 dvd games.

PS2 Games copied via DVD Burner

Forgive my ignorance, buy why do you need a "mod chip" to play a DVD copy of a PS2 DVD game?

Granted there must be some sort of copywrite protection on the original PS2 disk, so you couldn't go disk to disk.

But, if you read the PS2 DVD to an image file (ISO or something like that) on your hard drive, then burn it to the DVD writer wouldn't it just boot up and run like any other PS2 game disk?

Thanks in advance for the help.

No. DVD's are unprotected, CD's are protected by PSX/Libcrypt. DVD's are backed up using Prassi / Record Now MAX and CD's with CloneCD. This ensures no problems here. The only reason why you need a chip is to bypass this protection which Sony build into the bios of the console - it hasn't got anything to do with the discs, so unless you have a chip, you will not be able to force the data through the Bios, which means no booting, which means no game.

P.S.: Your ignorance is forgiven, lol!

Hope this helps, LUFCfan...

NOW!!! We know the reason your games are not booting.....

Get a mod chip and have it installed..... (Preferrably the Messiah 2).....

Then your backups will boot......

There is a area of the disc (pre-groove) that has the $ony protection "pressed" into the disc... The isn't a burner in the world that can duplicate this info.... Thus the need for a mod chip. The mod chip sends a "false signal" to the PS2 and tells it that you have inserted a "original" disc, thus allowing it to boot.....
